Unless that dyno shop has an incredibly strong fan that blows freeway speed wind at the front of your car, you should do the dyno with the hood up.

If you want to compare, do 2 runs witht he hood up, then let the car cool for 5-6 minutes with the fans still blowing. Then right before the 3rd run, close the hood.
You will see the drop in power because of the lack of sufficient air getting into the engine from the fans that can't replicate the amount of air going into your engine that you'd get at 100+ mph on the track at full throttle in 4th gear.

If the dynojet is calibrated properly (and on STD smoothing 5) with JB3 and 93 Octane you should see around 350-352 rwhp (best case scenario)
If the AFE intake is doing anything, you'll see closer to 355-360 rwhp. In that case you'd probably be getting 5-8 rwhp from the intake.

Unless you are going to do several dynos with the stock airbox and
several with the AFE, its not going to be a useful data point at all.
Why not do 3 pulls each way?

We lost about 10 HP with closing the hood. Droped from 357 to 347 on 93oct

Yup.
If you have a "ritter" fan in front of the car blowing 100 mph winds, then you can do it with the hood closed on an open intake system.

Some dyno shop should make a fan that increases the fan speed from 30 mph winds to 100 mph winds over a period of 10-12 seconds to replicate increasing velocity on the street.
That would give a more accurate dyno result that way too.

FYI - Here's a guy who used to have the BMS intake and his butt dyno told him he had less power, but now has the aFe intake and feels a big difference...

I'm not an engineer or car mechanic, but as a driving enthusiast, I can feel whether or not I'm getting more power or losing it. After installing my AFE, I can notice more power and better throttle response than the BMS. Plus this one has a heat shield, therefore is more understandable regarding cooler air flow. But, it's not dramatically different compared to stock w/ drop in panel filter nor HVI CAI, that's for sure. It's pricier compared to BMS, but all in all, I feel more "safe" (heat shield) and satisfied (looks, sound, and performance)

if he lost power with the afe that means he would of lost power with his dual cone setup as well. Makes no sense to me.

+1.. Sorry to say this, but we need to see dynos from an individiual that is not associated with any motorsport company.. because even from my "butt dyno" I can definitely feel a difference between Terry's BMS vs. AFE.

The BMS single filter or dual filter?

I love how people are not able to read details. BMS clearly said the variances were within the margin of error on run to run which is 5hp and 5tq. They did not say the car lost power with afe just that it did not gain power. They said cars with downpipes and exhausts would probably pick up more power with intakes. They also said the BMS intakes on this car would probably have the same results.

Let me guess, you have the aFe intake? Has anyone ever told you how pathetic you and your posts are? How sad it is that someone of your age has nothing better to do with his life than make posts on a forum about products he purchased but knows next to nothing about?

Rather than leasing your stay at home mom wife a $70k car and wasting our time with your ignorant commentary why don't you spend $75 to go do a before and after dyno with your intake and contribute something here?

Took the exact words out of my mouth! Why don't you guys that don't believe or disagree with my dyno results that I took time to post and share it with you guys, show me your own dyno work ! I'm sick of hearing my butt dyno , he said , my friend said .............etc! Like aab3218 stated , spend the 75 dollars and do your own before and after dyno's and share it with us . I would deffinetly want to see a different result , remember I'm also in it 320 bux!

+1 as well... due to my work, family life, and other things that rear their ugly head from time to time I just dont have the time to go dyno the car. Though I may try to go sometime this week.

Also I love how these guys dyno with tunes in their cars. We just need stock airbox vs AFE numbers.. my car is just that. Intake and nothing else.. I may have to do this. No bias.. no nothing.. but I really can't sit there and throw money at a dyno doing 3 runs per intake... I may do:

1) Stock Air Box
2) BMS Single Filter
3) AFE Filter

If everything goes okay this week then I may schedule a run for friday...

Dude, you need to chill out. You may not agree with what Gator has to say, but you don't have to be an ass about it.

Gator has been on here a long time, and did some of the original beta testing for tuning these cars. So although you may not like what he has to say, a personal attack is uncalled for.

Talking smack about his wife and what he does with his $ is also way uncool.

Without a tune the intake will give you next to nothing. That is why guys with tunes want to see dyno's, cuz it might give something..

I currently do not have the aFe intake yet. If you're so interested, why don't you do your OWN dyno?????? I love these guys that always say, "go dyno, go dyno," but never buy the product and dyno themselves! Also, my wife, our cars, and our money are none of your fukin business. :finger:

Don't be such an a$shole!

+1. So true; any HP/TQ gains from intake, DPs, etc. should be higher on already ECU tuned cars.
