im not sure how much the Actuator themselves go for. when i get home ill look it up.

it can be a DIY job, but i would suggest to get a shop to do it.
the main problem is gonna be the front turbo since the actuator is hidden and behind the front turbo aganist the block of the motor. your gonna have to remove the turbo to replace this, more the likely. as for the rear turbo, might have to remove the DP's to get more room to get to it, this actuator is easier to get to since it sits on top/in front of the turbo, it is visible and accessible from the top of the motor.

No, you do not have to change the wastegates, since they are not at fault here, the actuator is faulty and wont close them all the way, hence the wastegate slapping itself aganist its own seat. look at post # 24 from soko to get a better idea.

i was on Tischer, couldnt find just the Actuator, just the whole turbo?

cant really tell you exactly how long it would take, the Actuator is held on by two bolts and connected to the wastegate shaft via C clip of some sort.
disconnect vaccum hose, two large bolts and take the actuator arm off of the wastegate shaft, and walla, that actuator is off.

getting to it and having space to work with is a different story as i mentioned in my last post.

depending on how you get to the rear and front actuators, the job can be a hassle. remove DP's, remove front turbo, really depends if your able to get into there to work.

You can't just put the actuators on. They need to be adjusted to proper length with vacume applied to the actuator and this is done on the bench and is a pain in the ass and I have seen it done. If not adjusted correctly, the rattle will come back.

you can adjust the stock ones, my friend had his downpipes off this is pretty easy to do, but since the actuators are faulty, you can only adjust a broken Act. so much. from my knowledge you can slap a actuator on, since they come with a preset setting, like on my old car anwyays. i would think bmw does the same thing.

to do a adjustment you would need a vacuum pump, or even a hand pump works sometimes, hook it up to the nipple on the Act. so it can close the wastegate, then you do your adjust there via the Act. arm, release nut and adjust by twisting the Act. arm end., reinstall onwastegate shaft and check again. again, i havent done it on this car yet, but i cant see it be any different.

well thats good, so what maybe a 6-8 hr job? + buying the parts? so maybe like $1000? for a job that may not work out? how saddening

it would work out.

but the thing is, since it can be done under warranty, bmw might either, put in program29.2+ to band aid the problem, or reaplce the actuators.
you can bring it in and just ask them to see what the problem is and see what there solution is. if it is to reprogram, that BS and dont do it since the act still are working properly. all your gonna get is a 50/50 chane your wastegate isnt gonna rattle, and alot more lag from the wastegate staying open longer to stop the rattling noise, which is bmw's fight aganist the rattle.

They do not come adjusted from BMW and the techs have a procedure to do it with vacume equipment and the front one can not be done on the car.

i think he means you have to remove the front turbo to replce the actuator since the act. is wedge in a way agnist the turbo and engine block.

I think I had about 5000 to 6000 miles, and have a march 07 build date. I had significant loss of power and they ended up replacing both wastegate actuators. Car has been fine ever since.

Yes, I had the ticking sound. The sound started first. No CELs initially. Then about a week later I got the CELs but they would come and go. The the power decreased significantly. By that I mean I literally had about 50hp and could barely drive. It would take me 20 seconds to get up to 60mph. Could barely make it to the dealer.

Wow! Mine is currently in for that ticking sound, then 2 limp modes and 3 weeks to find the problem. I should have looked here sooner. Any way
may 07,26000mi. Changing both turbos and actuators.

Good luck all, this really makes me think about whether I should keep
my 335 beyond the warranty date, any thoughts?

They replaced the actuators in mine and at least for now the rattle seems gone - although I'm getting the feeling it still makes the occasional weird noise (maybe that's the normal wastegate function though).

I also noticed a small reduction in the turbo lag. Not to pre-v30.2 levels, but better than it was.

I'll continue to ask for the new software, nothing to loose here.

For those who got the new turbos and actuators, do you still have the lag than? I mean did they update the progman version?
