Yay for bumping informative old threads. I didn't like the idea of screwing around with wires in the light area and now I have a solution. Excellent DIY.

Where to put the remote display?
I'm planning to do the hardwiring through the fusebox, as described in this thread. But I'm wondering where I can locate the V1 remote display and how I can run the wire to that display from the fusebox area?
Ideally I'd like to have the display in front of me, near the instrument cluster (e.g., in front of the mpg gauge would be fine) but I don't see how I can get the wire there in a reasonable way. (I am not interesting in removing any significant trim-- or cutting any trim-- or taking the dash apart.) I'd welcome any suggestions about this.

You could probably run the remote wire from the fusebox area underneath the dash up to the steering column. I'm sure you could wire tie the remote wire to keep it out of the way. Once at the steering column you could run it out to right behind the steering wheel.
Kinda hard to explain but that's the first idea that popped into my head. Or you could run it up your center console and put it next to the brake lever or somewhere in that area. |

I wired my V1 through the fusebox, and then used a stiff wire to pull the remote display power wire through the center floorboard (JUST enough room to pull it through) and now have my remote display mounted nicely to the steering column. I can see it just right and still see my odometer.

Is there room for a female 12v plug socket in the fuse box? I want to hard wire my gps and this sounds like it will work perfect, but the Garmin Nuvi 350 has a voltage regulator down to 5V in the plug itself. I want to put a socket in there and just plug my Nuvi in, so I don't have to worry about making sure I don't cook it! Thanks for the great DIY info, I am learning a ton!

FYI for anyone else curious, I believe I discovered the flashlight outlet is always powered.
http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...ght=flashlight If anyone has other information, please post! Back to my original question... Anyone who has performed the fuse tap, is there room in there for a 12V socket/plug without interfering with the glove box closing or anything? |

Ok ok let's keep this thread civil/uncluttered. Its a fine DIY thread that is a great resource to all.
Utekai: Please go ahead and start a new DIY install thread. A different perspective on this mod, would be appreciated by many and would be a worthy addition to e90post's growing DIY master list. I see you have nice illustrations. Its not cool to jump/divert another's thread especially to another forum. Adding input is always welcomed but not outright hijacking. We are a tightly knit and proud E90 community here. Cheers.
