Based on my experience, the quicker the 60' the lower the trap.
People say that it's because you have less time to accelerate, but quicker acceleration is what got you down the line quicker so then why is the trap speed less?
hmmmmm.

Attached are examples of quicker 60' times with quicker 1/4 mile runs with lower trap speeds.
In your Feb timeslips you were actually faster (mph) in the first 1/8th mile on the "faster 60ft pass" where the 1/4 mph was slower than the other pass.

That's why its so important to look at all the numbers and always remark on the timeslips or a log book your impression of how the run went. Many times we will review/compare stuff like this and trying to remember exactly what happened on the run from 6mo to 1yr ago isn't always realistic.

But since you bring this up, then maybe it has to do with gearing.
Or, is it the way they conduct the trap speed calculation?
A lot of people think that the trap speed is the speed at which you are when you pass the finish line, but the speed at which one is going at the finish line is usually higher than what is displayed on the ticket.

The way the track determines the trap is the following.
There is a sensro that is 66 ft before the finish line and the sensor at the finish line.
The trap is the average velocity between these 2 points.
So, let's think about this...
If you shift before the sensor 66 ft before the finish then your average velocity would be greater than if you shifted after.
I think I'm on to something.
