35 married. No kids.

I was apprehensive about buying a coupe by the wife talked me into it. Our other vehicle is a Subaru Forester. Figured we would just use that if we need to have anyone in the back seat. 99% of the time its just gonna be my 2 and front work car.

Forgot to include my history of bmws. Went from an x6 (my first bmw) to a m4 then to a x3m which I just traded in to buy my wife's 2022 m340i. I only did it because I basically got back what I paid for it 3 years ago in trade in value. Crazy right now. So I'm driving her 2013 328xi until my new one comes in. Then we are giving that car to my 16 year old niece.

Yeah, I agree about it not appealing to the masses, as most people aren’t after a “driver’s car”.

31, not married no kids, Downtown Dallas.

I’ve had a 2016 228, 2013 128i, 2009 128i and 2006 330i

I was lucky enough to find a 230i in stock with the specs I wanted, and got a great trade in on the 228i

46, married, 3 kids-24, 16, 13. The coupe would not have worked for me a year ago-but with 16 driving it does now.

Supply chain and nuts used car market lead directly to the M240X I have on order. In a normal market, 16 would have got a decent used car and I'd keep driving my 4Runner. So.....he gets the 'yota and I get a fun car. And will take the 'yota back in a year and a half when he heads off to university. To me, the 4Runner and M240 are a darn near perfect stable. One for big snow, carrying big stuff, and escaping the zombie apocalypse. One for daily, light snow, and fast times.

Wife has Volvo XC60.

Past: 2018 Audi S4, 2015 X5, Ouback, MB C230, Various other vehicles.

39, wife and 2 kids.
First BMW was my recent 2021 M2 Competition - bought in August, buut sold in October for a 2022 M240, but while the M240 has been on order I went and tried a Tesla Model 3 Performance was instantly sold on that, so canceled my M240 recently. Still hanging around the forums though becuase I love the BMW community and BMWs still even though I won't own another for quite some time.

First Bmw, currently have a audi a6 avant and had a 2016 ford Mustang ecoboost a while back. Nothing special for the Americans in this forum, but for Europe, a very exotic car. Haha

If this thread proves anything, the answer isn't about demographics...it's psychographics! Doesn't matter as much what "container" your personality walks around in (young/old/male/female/parent/single, etc)...this choice is about shared automotive attitudes and values.

A ~$50K luxury purchase is going to attract lots of different 'groups' of buyers. On ClubRSX 20 years ago, the crowd was much more homogenous as the car was half the price, etc.

I think G42 owners fall into 3 categories:
  • Young professionals (without kids) making great coin looking for an all-around ride
  • Middle aged Dads/Moms with teen kids looking for a fun car (driving the family SUV normally)
  • Folks nearing retirement with kids out of the house without the need of a 4 door anymore

I'm in Bayern as well. When I take delivery maybe we can arrange for you to drive it if you're interested.

61, long time married. Kids gone. This will be my 6th BMW. Looking to drive around the country with wife for a few years. Short and long trips while the pandemic prevents really trouble-free global travel. Really wanted to go the 911 route, but the G42 practicality will likely win out. Days from ordering the BMW but still on waitlist for 911.

Wow, given that choice I know I couldn't be that responsible and order the M240 when I could have a 911. The M240 seems like a great car, but a 911 is next level. I know, why not get both?

Whoa!!! Those are great choices, but sheesh a 911 may be worth the wait. Lol

I love my M240I, but if I could afford a 911 I'd go for it.

Overall, I know it's all preference, but it's always interesting to see what other vehicles people are considering.

Early 6o's, empty nester, retired, married, 2 married sons mid-30s. Currently squished 98Mz3, 09-135i 6sp,13-135isDCT in my 2-car garage. Daily is 99 Corolla w/250,000miles.
Son is tempting me to buy the upcoming M2 by offering 0% financing. Hard to turn down his offer!
Btw, ordered both 1-series w/o test drives.
If no M2, then Cayman 4.0 Gts.
No EV in my lifetime unless they cut charging times on the road to 10 minutes.

Fanboy here, but I'd go for the Cayman GTS all day, every day. My BMW's have been my daily's, but I would like to upgrade my 981 Boxster for a 718 Boxster GTS while they're still available.

63, married with 2 kids and 3 grandkids. Previous BMW’s 2011 235xi, 2016 m340xi, 2018 m240xi convertible. The m240 had a Dinan stage 1 tune which made it very quick, but with the convertible BMW club wouldn’t allow it to be tracked. Traded the m240 for a 718 Boxster S, but have decided to go back to BMW although the Porsche is a blast to drive.

Always loved Porsches. When I graduated from college, MSRP of basic 911's were roughly 25k. Should have gotten one. Now forget it, Lol. Almost got a Boxster in '99 but they wanted $5k over. Forget about it! Hope to get ONE P-car before I leave this frail existence!
My son is planning to buy that new Taycan GTS if he can find an available one. He test drove a Gt3 but the ride was too firm. His DD is a Raptor, although he keeps an S2k(9000 redline) for special drives.
