The last time i saw a dyno on an N54 for any turbo brand was a long time ago. this market has changed as the car got older.

Now, the market is more for people on a budget but still want 500-700bhp. I don't think there's any cheaper platform VS power at the moment on the market. Just like me, 5th car, I want to keep the cost super low, so no plan for any dyno, nor titanium exhaust or carbon fiber intake. Only a street very conservative tune, with all the maintenance done. CTS and ON3 will or are popular considering their low cost. Still, I did want something more proven, went with speedtech |

Nope....that's for sure. I'm running nothing but standard bolt-ons, upgraded turbos, and a good E40 tune....and running 10's in the 1/4 mile. I don't know any other platform you could do that with. I bet I don't have $8K in the entire car and mods....and probably could have done it for cheaper if I wanted to. These cars are can make big power on the cheap......

Or like me, I have owned the car nearly 8 years now, it was in a bad accident and was declared a total loss so I restored it myself, but don't want to put alot of money into it at this point.
However, the front stock turbo is finally going bad at 151k miles and need to be replaced. I'm debating between CTS and VIV turbos. The VIV turbos are 35% less than CTS. I don't care so much about dyno results since I won't be pushing them, but I do want them to last more than 1-2 years. Do any owners or vendors have new opinions now that CTS has been on the market over a year? |

You can get a new set of RB OEM Billet turbos for $1,400.....and I think their standard OEM turbos are around $1,300.
Why roll the dice on CTS turbos when you can get a set of RB's that are machined, assembled, and balanced here in the USA by a company that specializes in nothing but N54 turbos...and has a fantastic reputation for being some of the best you can get for the platform? Try calling up CTS and talking to the guy who actually builds them....or getting any customer service from them what so ever....... Go with RB...you won't be disappointed. |

still , on FB, many kids doing cheap no-name upgrade, thus the n54 bad reputation. I mean, in a way, I'm not surprised, when you can find a high mileage ''working'' no check engine 335 for 5000$, kids will jump on that dreaming getting 500bhp with few cheap mods. |

and honestly it's been a fustercluck cause insurance uses Mitchel on Demand Point of sale software, and mitchel SUCKS! never had right part numbers, and their book times are always short. and insurance seems to think Grade A part condition is good enough when it damn near show room condition when i received the car. ( had to remind them of the "pre loss condition" clause of the law several times) anyway yeah, i liek to have supportign mods first before going kill mode. the plan right now is to get the turner hotside intake kit, maybe do a PURE S1+ turbo set, and turner Ti Exhuast, then focus suspension with turner or SPL toe adjusters, and M3 arms front and rear, then on brakes( like the F series M brembo's with seems legit kit). have the ECS aluminum VC waiting to go on with better PCV, new flapper, had to find a new PCV cap ( ebay, Nice CNC, apparently ECS uses their raw aluminum kit and sells it for 20 USD more, it fit well, and screwed in nice, more then i can say for Vargas Turbo Technologies PCV, i had to remove the cap and the guts and stick it in/on the bremmen PCV, which also had a screwed on cap held on with blue loctite. the VTTO PCV was machined too large. the PCV now seals decently.. still leaks a LITTLE bit. but the bremmen vanilla PCV was worthless, leaked like it wasn't even there. may just go low side bypass AN fitting in the future and Seems Legit exhaust venturi PCV off the down pipes. no emissions testing here) if you're curious abotu the catch can vent venturi, or crank case venturi, here is the link: https://www.seemslegitgarage.com/pro...st-venturi-kit it keeps slight vaccum on the crankcase, which helps keep seals from pushing out and leaking. |
