I can't really launch with much boost, because it would just result in wheel spin, and even more wheel spin past the 60' mark. So just a light brake boost with very little throttle to about 2000 rpm, and then just release the brake and give it heavy throttle and then floor it. That is the part that takes practice....knowing how soon to go into full throttle. If traction is decent, you can pretty much full throttle it. With the DRs, most of the runs they are kind of just slipping a little through the first 60' or so. And again...I often get better traction on the street than at the drag strip. Go figure...

The z4 has that heavy ass retractable top, which is what...like a couple hundred extra pounds?
Hotrod...very cool that you came across this guy while testing your own car. Too bad he didn't stop so you guys could talk, but I'm sure he's under very strict orders to keep moving!

I weighed the coupe today. 3500 lbs with about 1/8 tank of gas. This is with the 19" M6 replicas. The sedan weighed 3520, I believe with the 17" Kosei/Nittos in the rear. So coupe/sedans are very close in weight nevertheless.

Although I suppose if you are getting really bad wheel spin in the lower rpms, it might prevent the car from short shifting. Or when doing the burnout on the launch pad, my trans shifted by itself, and I say my speedometer go to 100mph! (But maybe its not a bad thing that it did shift during the burnout)

hotrod182,
Did you ever try to shift a bit earlier from 2 to 3th gear and 3 to 4th gear, +/-6600 revs. I tried it once with my gtech (stock car) and it resulted in my best run. |

I've personally tried short shifting at the track, and on a VBox. It almost always resulted in a slightly slower ET and trap then when you just let the ECU shift for itself. I believe on one occasion I got a time that was very similiar to letting the ECU shift itself, but never has it been the best times. I know Warren and Terry, and many others have tried short shifting too and also resulted in slower times. I think short shifting a bit in the mid gears works for the manual cars because of their different gear ratios, but for the autos, the engineers clearly tuned the cars to shift at the optimal points. |

It might be tough to do in a manual when you are concentrating on other things!

Haven't tested stock ET time lately in this particular car, but should be right about the same as the sedan. 13.3-13.5 @ 104-106mph.
You can see how the Nittos brought the ETs down from 12.7-12.8 down to he 12.5 range on pump gas. So traction is critical. So for those of you looking for a quick way to make your car faster, I am selling the rear tires for $100 (see the for sale section) Also, you can see with my testing, and the VBox at 12.2 @ 116.3 mph is spot on with the performances I got at the track 116.5 mph. Remember the days when people used to laugh at my Vbox numbers and say "there is no way you will get those numbers at the track." I guess I should have said, "I know, I will do better at the track!"
