I bought my first BMW at maybe 34, back in 2012. E36 325 coupe. Bought it to use as a weekend track car. Absolutely loved to drive this car on the track. Learned a lot too! Still have fun tracking it more than 10 years later!

In the late 90s I worked for a Jeweler who drove a 99 740iL It was my first real introduction to BMWs. It really stood out to me, and I decided then that I wanted one some day.
After my divorce in Dec of 18, I purchased my first BMW, a 2018 230I, now I drive a 20 M340i Won't be my last BMW |

Definitely my first BMW, which I sort of bought on a whim. I'd always loved wagons, shopped around for 540i wagons with manual swaps etc, bid pretty hard on a S54-swapped 3-series wagon, but nothing quite panned out. Ended up with this little guy which I just loved.
Driving experience and details were great and really opened my mind up to the idea of a more modern BMW. I ended up selling this a few years later, and then got rid of my '14 Raptor and '13 S4 for my M4.

The E46.
I saw it on the road and it was the first time a car broke my neck. Considering all the other cars that are out there, kinda meh, eh? I didn't even know what it was at first. It wasn't until the third time I saw one that I figured out the brand.

Ran across this one up at COTA a few years ago. Such a boss car.

I was hooked on BMW the moment I first drove my brother's BMW 2002 back in the early '70s. I owned a '61 VW bug and loved it, but driving that 2002 was just an amazing experience; cornering, braking, fun factor, space, looks, everything!
At the time, I was in college and could not afford one. Then came marriage and kids so my dream was put off a bit longer. Finally in 1988 I bought a new '88 528e when business was good and I could actually afford it. I've been driving BMWs ever since. Here's a pic of my brother's 2002 back in the day with my wife at the time. Wait, she's still my wife. 50 years this year! |

When I was 4 years old living in England, my dads younger brother brought home a brand new E36 325is coupé. When he got out, he locked the car with the remote and the windows rolled up by themselves. I was mind blown. From that day forward, BMW has been nothing short of an obsession.

Same for me. I saw a coupe drive past while walking on the sidewalk and knew I wanted one some day.

That made me buy a E46 330Xd, afterwards an E90 which I drove for roughly 150000miles (just regular maintenance) and now I just bought a F11 |

I never considered owning a BMW or any other so called 'luxury' brand of vehicle. Until one day I did. I test drove a Toyota Avalon, a Subaru Legacy GT, and some other stuff.. and they were $30,k cars in 2005. I saw a base model 325i was about the same so I thought I'd try one.. It was love at first drive. I'd only heard bad stories about how expensive they were.
I put 100,k trouble free miles on my E46 base model. I remember looking at it in the garage and saying, 'wow, I own a brand new BMW.' That was a special feeling of accomplishment. Over time I bought an X3 (E83) and recently replaced that with a newer X1 (F48). I wanted a convertible and found one in the color and options I wanted for a fair price. So now I have an E93 as well. I really love driving that car. (other than the pothole explosions) I still prefer the classic look and driving dynamics of the E46... it's just so balanced. I like the square setup over staggered. At some point I test drove a 135i and later a 228i convertible and thought BMW had lost their way... Just numb, especially the 228i. The way the X2 drove is what brought me back to buy another BMW. I needed a little more space so the X1 was the better option. Drives nice, but not as good. (I'd still take it over the 228i, though)... So over the years I've come here.. and it seems to have been revamped a couple or few times over the years... so nice to see it's still a good community. |

I've liked cars since I was young. My Dad had a Mercedes sedan. I remember how the suspension of the MB was so different than American cars then realized European cars fundamentally differed from American in that aspect. I've always had Japanese cars but the BMW styling was something I always liked. I chose a BMW 5 series for my wedding over an MB sedan when I got married overseas. I decided to take the plunge on my first BMW in 2016, a CPO 2013 BMW 650i, and that's when I joined this forum. Beautiful car and loved it but not the fact that I brought it to the dealership 4 times for repairs in the year and a half I owned it. Since then, I've had an E70 X5M and now an F86 that has been a better experience (so far) reliability wise.

Not sure if it was the exact start but definitely helped. If you know, you know.

Can related. Wish BMW still made cars that stirred so many emotions as when seeing that for the first time. Maybe I am getting old, but I do miss the time when there was no Xs, M8s, etc...When the M3 was the quintessential soul of BMW.
