Saw Ant at Speed Religion this morning: he confirmed that my second gear is very notchy. "That really is not a smooth shift, is it?" he said. So at least I know I'm not imagining it!

Ah well, hope you're right NFS, it should get better with time. I just passed the 10,000 mile mark today, so hopefully the worst is over.

Anyway, more importantly, Ant also removed my CDV, which has transformed teh way the car changes gear. When I get time I'll post a review.

By the way, mine is at 48k. Its still notchy as f**k. Think problem is I've got an ex-reps car and it was just sat in 6th all the time..

I'm hoping it loosens off, but don't really care and will live with it otherwise..

Just read this lot with great interest and I'm now on a "downer". My last car a 318Ise 2006 e90 had a superb gearbox right from new, (had only done 11k when I part exed it, so I guess it was a one off. This one is bloody awful by comparison and even though I don't baby the thing I'll only have covered 10 - 15k by the time I sell. Oh well - some other guy is gonna benefit from it wearing in! At least I now know my car is apparently "normal"

Don't be on a 'downer', mate. It's not that bad. Get rid of your CDV and the notchy gearbox becomes less of an issue.

I don't think I ever babied my gearbox, but if I tried to be rough or force it, it just made it worse.

Hi
OK now - had a couple of beers last night and on an "upper" again. I love the car anyway even though it gives me backache, b*******ache and arm-ache.
Just got my spoiler back from the paintshop and hope to find some blackline lights then I'll look at the CDV - forgive my ignorance but won't that affect the warranty?

Well, you replace, rather than remove, your CDV, so to the BMW techs it looks all normal - if they even know what they're looking for, which most don't anyway. I had mine done last week and it has made a huge difference.

I also had Black Line lights fitted. Bothe these mods were carried out by Anthony at Speed Religion, based in Warrington, and I can hihly recommend them.

Err - don't know what I did there - didn't mean to post "Hi". Thanks for the recommendation but Warrington is too far for me to travel. I'll need to find someone in Northumberland or Tyneside although I've got a mechanic mate who might doo the job
