The i4 M50 is currently faster accelerating than any other 2/3/4 series, M or not. It is actually quite good on an autocross course, perhaps faster than an auto M2 and M4 Comp XDrive that I drove the same course on, too. I will take my manual M2, though.

BMW don't seem to have any 225mm diffs that are not either 3.462 or 3.154.
The word "easy" is doing some heavy lifting there.

Always look at both numbers. Not just the time, but the trap speed, too. The M2 gets off the line slower but is out-accelerating the 240 after that, which is why it has a higher trap speed.

Wow! I knew the M2 was a quick little car but damn! I didn’t think it would perform that well against the Mustang.

I agree. I have taken mine on some several hundred mile highway trips. You can just stay in 6th gear and just hit the gas if you want to pass anyone.

But that is very well known.
Automatics are always quicker. They had manual cars.
Ahh yes, quicker and faster...always love playing that game with people. They look at you like you're from mars. There's still a 3 handle in front of my age, but I remember the days when autos were never faster!

As for the power in the S58. I think BMW is just making it up. The M2 is 453, the M3/4 are 473, the M3/4C are 503, the CS/CSL are 543. It's like add 20, 30, 40 to the brochure, do nothing to the engine.

I am with you there. Lotus has been my favorite car since I was a kid and saw the Esprit on the various James Bond movies.

I am going to give them some time before I order one again.
As a backstory, when I tried to buy an Evora years ago, I went to the dealer 3 times and the demo cars were so screwed up that it was just a litany of apologies: "sorry, we can't get the window to go back up". "Sorry, we can't get it to start", "Sorry, the carpets are soaked....."
Then the last year they produced it, they figured it out.

Hopefully, Geely's money will fix it shortly!

I mean, S58 with 6MT can comfortably make 550bhp looking at 3.0 CSL. Hopefully the OEM 3.0 CSL tune becomes available soon.

This and similar videos are a pleasant distraction from the other daily races, such as Home to Costco in less than 1 hour.

Nicely done!

It’s older than that. It’s from the 1M. I also don’t think it has anything to do with gearing. I think there is a boost / torque limit in 1st and 2nd. I think S55 M2C has this also. It’s hard to spin on that car vs N55 M2.

I think TH mentioned the shift linkage was updated by Toyota when they co-engineered the Supra's 6MT. Perhaps it explains why the shift feel is reported to be better with G87.

Don't forget the 240ix is also an automatic. An M2 auto would have killed the M240ix as well.

It's not. If we're talking apples to apples, or in this case auto to auto, the G87 runs 3.5 0-60, and 11.7 @122 mph. So no, the two cars aren't even close in a straight line.

And on top of that, the F8X transmission is derived from the 1M so to say it’s long in the tooth is an understatement.

Doug DeMuro says the Supra’s MT gearbox is right out of European market Z4.

Toyota’s claim of tuning it for Supra are not factual.

I was surprised at 0-60 of the m2 until I saw it was manual

Pretty impressive launch

100% when m cars hit end of 2nd and 3rd gear it’s game over. What a staggering tuning difference bmw did that it is way harder to accelerate. I felt it all the way back to n54 motor when at higher speeds it was unstoppable

I watched this video already and it is very cool that the m2 is that fast, especially because my m240ix is pretty much just as fast

The M240ix is a bit faster due to the AWD traction to 60mph in 3.6 seconds (with 1ft rollout of 0.2 seconds), but takes 12.6 seconds to get from 60 to 130mph. The manual M2 takes 3.9 seconds (with 1ft rollout of 0.3 seconds) to 60mph, but is significantly faster from 60 to 130mph in 10.7 seconds.
