Speculation: Since this is a BMW USA sales record, I am wondering if this represents the cars they off loaded to the dealers (aka selling to the dealers) as opposed to the dealers selling the cars to customers. Thus, the higher number of 4 series cars > 3 series is just a representation of BMW producing more 4 series and making dealers buy them (...to then sit on the lots).
False. I’m almost positive they don’t count a sale until it’s sold to a customer. That would be called stuffing the channel and is not allowed under US GAAP…. Besides, inventory remains incredibly low. Your speculation would mean they have 30,000 more vehicles on 366 dealer lots than they had at this time last year. No way.

I’m sure you’re right, now. But in September 2020 Securities and Exchange Commission found otherwise. So there’s this pesky precedent.

You just validated his argument! The cost of the battery being that high has the opposite affect to retaining any value. Your residual means nothing, and if you pay attention, there are clear indicators that you will be up to a shocking reality soon.

i4 is a pretty big proportion of that. In particular the i4 M50 is the top-selling model that has an M anywhere in its name.

Which is amazing and awesome and proves they are selling well compared to their competitors.

Competing with the Lamborghini urus, in the first year lamborghini sold 1761 urus WORLDWIDE…. For the XM, 2315 was just US sales. If I remember correctly, US would have about 25% market share worldwide which means 9000-10000 XMs will be sold worldwide if these figures hold true and would mean that in its first year alone XM outsold urus worldwide even though they have been making urus since 2018.

It took Mercedes G wagon 10 years to sell more units per year than what BMW did for XM sales in the US in their first year.

Annual XM sales also would be higher than Porsche cayenne turbo GT, Aston martin DBX, Ferrari purosangue, Audi RSQ8, Maserati levante trofeo, etc etc.

Not really concerning at all and kind of a miracle they are close to flat considering all of their SUV's (not counting X1) are late in their life cycle. It's 2024 and the current X3 debuted in 2018, X5 & X7 both debuted in 2019. They are ancient in automotive years yet still selling strong which goes to show how popular BMW SUV's are today.

X5, X6 and X7 all had a recent LCI, 2023 and 2022, respectively. Maybe iDrive 8/8.5 with lack of HVAC controls are turning off customers? The new G65/G66/G67 are years away. Only mater of time before the model price increases caught up with sales.

BMW Group announced that XM global sales through the 3rd quarter 2023 was 4,450 units. Highly doubt that 5,500 units were sold world wide in the 4th quarter despite the significant manufacturer sales support.
US 1st quarter was 434 XM units.
US 2nd quarter was 762 XM units.
US 3rd quarter was 443 XM units.
1st 3 quarters was 1,639 XM units.
To move 676 XM units in the 4th quarter there was significant discounting, don’t see how much longer this can continue. BTW world wide sales also includes the XM 50e which is not available in the US and apparently the X5 50e has a production issue due to drive train malfunctions that new builds have been delayed until March 2024.

Again, I haven’t seen final global numbers just making some extrapolations on data we were given which of course could change.

Just observed the same after reviewing the sales numbers again. i4 is not reported separately but iX is.

Uhm, that would be because the iX is a distinct chassis code, while the i4 is not, it is literally the BEV version of the 4er Grand Coupe (G26).

Understood. But there is also an understandable motivation for creative accounting. Still - BMW sales tell a good story.

To be clear, the iX is the odd one out here: the iX1, the i5 and the i7 are all lumped together with their ICE counterparts.

4,450 globally through Sep 30, so probably more like 6,000-7,000 annually.

It’s an impressive number. I’d probably buy one if I were in the market for a $150-170k SUV, but only because it’s so easy to acquire relative to the Porsche.

Looking forward to the global results!

Oh good, in the year in which inflation was highest and the premium on new cars was absurd, bmw sold the highest quantity of vehicles. Price relief is clearly right around the corner

Curious to see what the figures are for Audi and Mercedes to better put BMW's numbers into context.

Wow...2,315 people wasted their hard earned coin on an XM

EDIT: And that's ONLY for the U.S....holy smokes...$200k+ vehicle. Imagine having financed this vehicle at today's rates...stupid is as stupid does I suppose
