So based on this being just a software issue, a remap would still get me to the same sort of power levels as one that has not been 'reduced' - Correct?

ps; Don't think it explains the bad fuel economy though...

Peeps - I was getting a little concerned at the thought of you 320d fleet/ex-fleet owners thinking you had a lower powered car as standard, so I called a contact at BMW just now to clarify, and to put these rumours to rest.

In the UK, there has NEVER been a 150bhp 320d in E9x guise - all 320d variants, including fleet cars, were specced with the standard M47TU2D2 2.0L Diesel Engine, which develops 161hp (163ps) and 340Nm at the flywheel in 320d guise

The 318d used the same basic M47TU2D2 2.0L Diesel Engine, but in a lower tune, developing 121hp (122ps) and 280Nm at the flywheel

So please let the scaremongering stop

WHo knows? I dont honestly think you could have this smaller output engine, more people here in the Uk would know about it.

Excellent stuff, thank you for some sanity! I couldn't find any reference in the UK for fleet cars so i was coming to the same conclusion but it's nice to have it confirmed officially.

Right...........booked in to a local RR on Thursday evening...........

He is supposed to be a sharp cookie so I am gonna get a diagnostic done there.

To help diagnose the problem, I am gonna get him to check:

Boost pressure
MAF readings if possible
EGR readings if possible

(do we know what these are meant to be?)

Any other things i should be asking for?

Hopefully we will have a nice wee graph to compare MEGA

P.S. Are the variable vanes on our turbos electronically controlled?

I'm not sure the vanes can be modified by the ECU but it might be another system.

It could be a lack of education from the guys who ran my E90 - they don't do too much german stuff.. But they were only talking about fuelling and boost pressure when we discussed a remap.

Imran at Evolve would be a good dude to have some insight from on this thread, I will drop him a PM.

Well, that's a great result for a 163 remap, probably about as good as you'll get without any hardware mods. Have you tried it for fuel economy yet? Even if it hasn't improved you will at least have a big smile on your face as your diesel bleeds away. Where abouts did you get the remap done? Have they got a website?

Hi mate,

Economy is erm, not this cars strong point ........but i though feck it, if its gonna have sh1t MPG figures then it might as well go fast.

The guys that did it are based in Kells, Northern Ireland. They are called Torque Tronix. http://www.torquetronix.co.uk/

Site aint the best but they are working on it and yours trulys car will be featured

Bloody nice chaps to be honest......a right laugh to boot and they fussed over my pregnant missuz to make sure she was comfy

Anyone have any thoughts on my slight torque curve drop at 2000rpm - 3 or my stuttering problem?

Regards
Andy

I noticed the dip on a previous thread about remapping, Imran @ Evolve said it's to do with how the car is used on the dyno but isn't a characteristic felt on the road. Link to thread below.

good link mate.....

Might prolly contact Imran regaring the judder.

David said that strictly speaking, I shouldn't be loading the car at full throttle in 6th from 1500 rpm. That seems fair but it did not judder before.

Ideas?

slight under fuelling or too much air. hard to know for sure.

good to see that your base figures are very similar to me. Obviously 163 is "optimistic".

I want freaking 210 bhp!!!! Remap is booked in for April.

lol. Question is how much worse is it now with all that extra fuel?

If you power is okay then there's got to be something explaining the poor MPG, things that need cleaning? changing? Have you had a chance to get it looked at?

cheers

dx, no mate, went for a remap.......quite keenly priced around here.

as for the mpg, well....i ran some decent fuel through it and was seemingly on for 530ish from a tank.

i am about to calculate from the tank what i get so i can be more accurate.

i suppose i am not too confident in the obc to be sure.

530s not bad, the tank is 61 litres which is around 13.5 gallons, so 530 miles would be nearly 40mpg.

You know, perhaps these fuel counters are wrong. I'll try doing it manually as well and see what i get. So let us know

cheers
