I'm tempted to buy it and find out. I've been running non-doomsday maps on my msd81 from day one. If anyone has a code I do.

Hrmm, I would be willing to scan it but that would be the loss of another VIN.

I'm in the exact same boat. If I lived a little closer to Steve, I'd pay some of his original cost just to see, but it'd eat a VIN.

If you're near FL, I'd scan it for you.

You mean pay towards my upgrade costs to the unlimited.

Actually, it is not a big deal as you can purchase additional VINs. If we meet up in Calhoun, I would be happy to scan it.

I have the pro, so I will gladly give free scans/clears. I head to GA once in a while for business.

In addition, there may be a stream function call in which the read is unsolicited.

For instance, lets call all registers as letters in the alphabet. It could be faster to ask for A...Z in a single request than to ask for A, then D, then L, then S, etc. and then repeat. In many communications it is easier to ask for a starting address and then a length and then parse data.

In fact, this is common in PLC programming. Take ModbusTCP, we may ask for a starting address of 400001 and a length of 500 which will return 500 words (double byte). We do this even though we may only need 25 values because they are spread out in that range.

I need to update this as I heard from Bav Tech on the details.

When parameters are selected, a data request is made asking for X, Y and Z values over the CAN bus. The DME will then respond with a CAN message which contains all the requested values. The BT software then parses the data and runs conversions into engineering units.

In other words, all values are not read. But nor are individual items. A message is created which contains all of the data requested. As they put it, and if your are familiar with database programing, it is similar to creating a View in SQL Server.

Thinking about buying one for my E46 M3... would be nice if you could upgrade later to the Pro version. Perhaps someone could suggest that. Should be very straightforward on their end...

There's some rumbling that you could be able to activate your Bluetooth or OEM Alarm after self-installation. That would be the coup'de grace and the big diff between the enthusiast and Pro versions.

Thanks Mike, I'm ordering it now. Oh and hey in regards to the dyno charts I sent, your thoughts on why they were jacked are probably right-- insuf. air flow on the dyno, they just used a single shitty fan. LOL.

Question for the ECU gurus amongst us: does the MSD80/81 track logins and the changes made to the system during the "session"? In other words, would the dealership know the system's been tapped into and values modified?

I may be paranoid but nobody wants to leave an electronic "footprint" for the dealerships

Guys,

Does the BT software tell you what software version you're running?

Thanks

Yes and no, it does report system information but not in the format we normally talk about; it doesn't say V29.2.
