Hopefully I won't have to clean up a thread that I started. The topic is simple, just the idea of blind testing. Nothing about one tuner or another. The test could not be without bias; each individual driver has their own preferences. I don't see the purpose of a blind test here to declare one tune superior to another in some objective sense, but rather to see how individuals like the different tunes without preconceptions, without knowing which tune they are experiencing. Then hopefully we all could use what they write up as a guide for our own preferences. Nothing substitutes for first-hand experience, and we all should applaud the business practice of trying out a tune for a couple weeks to see if it works for you. I always thought that worked well with potential wives too. But anyway, the idea is to provide more useful info. It's not perfect. Look who some of us ended up with (of course, in my case, I got the perfect wife...).
We had a great time doing this with beer in college. Get a bunch of friends together, fill a fridge with beer, then one or two volunteers pour the beer into a pitcher and then into each person's small cup, so that they do not know which beer they are drinking. Then they rate and write a brief review, and guess what beer they think it is if they want to try. Repeat this procedure over a couple dozen beers and you have yourself an excellent party. Obviously it is key to talk lots of girls into trying this as a way to find a beer that they actually like. You can repeat samples to see if when it's evaluated in round #2 that the results are similar in round #14. The goal here is not to declare a winning beer, but rather to see what beer you personally like without bias. Everyone is usually too bombed to remember how to set up an excel spreadsheet with the results anyway. The consistent surprise in our tests was the success of Old Milwaukee. ![]() As you get older (and a bit wealthier) you employ the same tactics using champagne instead of beer. Or Belgian ales instead of American lagers. Or ... you get the point. Do not try and mix beer evaluation parties with tune evaluation parties. We might all get along and not have anything to squabble over if that happened. But we might lose a few good cars in the process. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

+1 for Jeff at TOV
I go to TOV almost daily also. I have been going since buying my '97 Prelude SH. Still miss that car. But I do agree that Jeff would be a wonderful choice for an impartial review.

i still say i can get the best group to do it. none of them have ever driven in a car with either of the tunes in question, and they are either volkwagen or evo people so they dont care which is better.
we can do this in orange county or the inland empire. i would recommend my prior comments on structuring the event, and two cars for each tune. This way if one car is "acting-up" the other will be there to represent the tune properly. i do think all the bashing is getting annoying, it is always coming up. they say copycats are the best form of flattery. |

I offer my services. My distaste for both options allows me to be objective.
![]() Seriously, I'll drive both and give a candid review.
