Only on e90post.com does someone who makes $15 dollars an hour consider the purchase of an e90. I'm ALMOST speechless, once again.

1) Pay a lawyer friend and get it reduced to a parking ticket. Can you do that in Cali? I just did that in Las Vegas. Hell, they have signs for the service all around.

2) I also agree that this is the only forum where a kid making 15/hour considers buying a Bimmer. Don't do it. It is not worth the money at your age. It will seem cool and wear off after a month or two. After that you will be stuck with the payment and insurance.

Shouldn't make a difference. The cop could never take it back in court and say you were going faster than what he wrote on the ticket, as this misstates the evidence of his previous testimony (ticket/report).

But I agree, The OP likely shouldn't challenge the ticket with a plea of not guilty unless he has an attorney. If he chooses to enter no contest and plead with the judge based on circumstance and clean driving record for some sort of bargain on sentencing, that shouldn't involve the original cop at all.

Look at everyone here on their pedestal, like they have never contested a ticket before.

Anyway, there's no way you aren't paying the ticket, the key is to keep it off your insurance - 3 years of penalties for a single mistake is bullcrap.

I'm not from CA but it sounds like there's a class you can go to - do that! If not, plead not guilty and try to bargain with the prosecutor or cop for a non-moving violation since it's your first offense.

How is your driving record?

When I got a speeding ticket a year and a half ago I went to court. I wasn't going to challenge the fact I was speeding, but rather explain why I was only doing 10 over (55 in a 45) because I thought the speed limit sign only applied to the on ramp (like they do in South Florida where I grew up). The judge was super cool. He told us we could do 1 of three things. Plead guilty, plead innocent and then he would schedule a date where the officer could come in and tell his side, or plead no contest and he would look at our driving record and decide what punishment we should get. He said he couldn't help us make a decision, but as long as we had a good history he would be lenient on us. I had gotten pulled over by Florida Highway Patrol and the trooper was really cool as well (only gave me a ticket for violating a traffic control device instead of speeding so it was a cheaper ticket) so I didn't want to push my luck with him since I know they had to show up in court. So I picked the no contest option. He looked at my record and asked me if I had been driving since I was 16 and I answered yes. I had 4 tickets from 16-17, 3 were dismissed because of an awesome lawyer, and 1 of them I went to school for and that was the only one that showed up on my history. So he said he was impressed I had only had one ticket in 4+ years of driving and gave me adjudication withheld, no points, plus $100 in court costs. He did the same thing to people with a much worse record then me. The only person he ripped a new one to was a kid who did double the speed limit in a school zone and had had around 12 tickets. Gave him 4 points, $1000 fine, and mandatory driving school.

So if you have a pretty clean record I would say go to court and see if you can get him to do no points, plus whatever fines he wants to impose. Tell him you are really sorry, and even though your friend was in the hospital it wasn't an excuse to speed. I'd even bring your friend to vouch he was in the hospital if you could.

GL though.

^ Hard to do without an attorney. Not guilty will go to trial and he'll be made a fool in the court room by the prosecutor. The driving class is the best solution to removing the points. This can best be done with a no contest plea and asking the judge about special programs / driving class based on clean driving record before sentencing.

OT: e90post might be a good place for an attorney to set up a speeding ticket clinic for a nominal charge

I had a chicken salad sandwich and a bag of chips for lunch.....

I'm going to go on the Jeep forums and ask them what I should have for dinner...

Already stated that i was a little caught up in how much money i would be making (going from $9 an hour to $15 is a lot for a college kid) and it's over. Not gonna get an e9x any time soon.

Looks like you got a really nice judge. Unfortunately my driving record isnt squeeky clean, as my brother got me a ticket the month before my speeding ticket. He borrowed my car and ran a red light, which only took a picture of the license plate, landing me with the ticket. He paid it, but there was nothing we could do to get it off my record.

Im wondering if i could still try the whole concerned for my friend thing even though ive already got the speeding through a red light ticket on my record.

Thanks for the advice!

Had to do driving school already for my brother's ticket (see above response) and the law is once every 18 months. I've heard that the court is greedy for money, so they are allowing people to take it more than once due to the extra money it costs.

Even in NYS, where they hit you with all kinds of violations, a camera red light ticket is not a moving violation and is not charged against anyone's driving record because they can't determine who the actual driver was.

You should have done a little research before doing the driving school thing. I just Googled and came up with several hits on this issue. One was this:
