I also love flooring my car joining a motorway in 4th.

I loved having one of the first m sports on the road, got mine late october 2005, I had never seen one before except on tinternet, hence my school boy error with the 17" wheels

So I love my car lots and could even have dirty thoughts about it if Viv is correct (as if Vivmeister would be wrong) about the standard cd or multi changer being able to play MP3 since some smackhead nicked all me cds!!
Don't worry Pads- you carry on with your 'dirty thoughts'!

We'll sort some mp3 CDs for you for the meet- just try to be there ok!

Have a look here.

Speaking of mp3 cds - I'm well impressed how much the player has improved since my E46. This old unit would give a basic track listing (in numbers) and now I find that you can select albums/tracks from a title listing (depending on what you called the files the mp3s are saved in).

That's brilliant - who needs a 6 disk autochanger??

Agreed, but wouldn't it be better if it read DVD's !!!!

4.3 GB of mp3's per disk rather than 800MB

Now that would be something.

I notice the E90 has got an I-Pod port for a less limited selection of music, but I'm too tight to buy one of those for the car

First time my daughter has had any interest in my new car - and only because its got the I-pod socket so she thinks we will listen to her music now. For some reason, I keep forgetting to buy the necessary cable!

At the moment, I just listen to the engine (strange as its a diesel!)

Understandable mate - the 6 cylinder diesel sounds much sweeter than the 4 cylinder.

325d and 335d both come out soon (September). Apparently the 325d uses the 3 litre engine. Perhaps I can get one of those next!

As I always tell my kids, aim for the highest and only lower your sights when you have to. I might have gone for 325d if I could have waited for one! Although 335d sounds nice - but I don't really enjoy diesels mated to auto.

As my kids are now 14 and 13 I'll be aiming for a cheap to insure supermini next - although that will be the better half's. Might try for an SLK as the car she drives when kids have passed test and want to pinch the cheapy!

I like your thinking... it's a bit like mine!

As a personal purchase the 325d seems rather interesting. The 320d is good but after a few years it doesn't feel as quick as it used to, and of course a nice smooth six cylinder engine would be nice

So far the best things for me are the outstanding Logic 7 stereo, really impressive and turning it off and listening to that glorious straight 6 wail

I prefer the best of both worlds- in-dash CD + 6 CD autochanger + SatNavPro DVD reader = a minimum of 9.2Gb of mp3s!

I can't use the SatNav whilst the nav DVD is out of the drive, but there again, it doesn't matter when I know where I'm going!

I have driven my 330d for over six months. It was an automatic with SE spec. I found the six speed steptronic gearbox amazing. Most impressive compared to the E46 is the level of refinement and the low road noise level despite the rattles, still tackling the problem! Outstanding car but let down by this soft-stop braking feature or part of the new DSC systems, I’m still not convince that this is normal, I was never able to get to a nice slow stop, it always ended up jerking a bit in the end. Also the sticky brake caused by this 3 seconds delay even you are on a level ground added to the problem.
Apart from that it's a nice car and it is an BMW.

The more I drive my car, the more I'm amazed by it. The engine is getting more responsive with each mile travelled (now up to 3100 miles) and the other day I was sitting in a car park in reverse when someone walked behind my car. As they passed from o/s to n/s the PDC chime changed too. What a great idea

For us Americans, please explain what "o/s" and "n/s" mean. I know but that's only because I've been blending in among you for a while.

Yeah, sorry nearside and offside does sound a little poncy. Alright - left to right if you're facing foward then.

I was just amazed that my car has stereo PDC bongs!!

As I stated, I knew that.

I knew that, too. What I meant was for other Americans that wander into this thread.

Wouldn't a better definition, ES-Jet, be nearside nearest the shoulder/verge (except isn't the land between lanes on a motorway called the verge, too?)?

I glad you mentioned that. I was only thinking the other day "I swear this car is getting quicker and smoother?" Thought I had been working to hard and losing the plot!!

I've now covered 3700 miles in mine and it just seems to be get better by the day.

Chris - if it's anything like my E46 320d, that really started to fly around about 10,000 miles.

When I test drove my (now retired) e60 530d it felt incredibly smooth and quiet.

Then when I got back into my much loved e46 320cd (with the 150 bhp engine) it felt like a bag of spanners. The 4 cylinder BMW diesels are remarkable, but the 6 cylinder engines take this onto another level entirely (as is also the case with the 4 and 6 cyl petrol engines).

Anyway .... back to the 'favourite bit of your e90' question:

I haven't had it long, but thus far it has to be the exhaust note of the 330i. I have been very naughty and redlined it (even though it's only done 150 miles) and the sound is amazing.

It starts of as a very low rumble (sounds like a bigger engine - very like a Porsche) and it's fairly refined up till 4000rpm, after which it starts to snarl and rasp a bit and by 6000rpm it sounds pretty wild.

I've already started dropping it into 2nd when accelerating away at 40mph - just to get the 'kick in the back' feeling and that lovely noise.

I wasn't expecting this ... my earlier BMW petrol engines were quite clinical and refined, but obviously with the e90 330i they have chosen an exhaust that brings out the sweet sound of the straight six.

When I started it with the kids in the car (I didn't rev it - just hit the starter button), my 2 year old said - daddy's car VROOM VROOM.

You can now "officially" post on this thread NFS

You are getting me really excited about the engine / exhaust note now ... you are clearly loving it.

I didn't get much of a chance to redline the demo car, as the salesman came out with us and it was pouring down with rain and i mean seriously chucking it down.

Hmmm ... wonder how many miles I will be able to hold off before hitting "that" power band ?
