The short black brace that you removed cannot be used again can it with this intake? Is this brace important?

Again we cannot say with a degree of certainty without measuring the flow of the filter as opposed to the needs of the turbos. However, we can infer. If there is an air restriction, the turbos will spin at a higher rpm to compensate so they can generate the requested boost. That will generate more heat, yet the AITs, not turbo inlet temperatures were colder. That is one important piece of evidence.
Next, if the JB3 detects flow restrictions then it will reduce boost at high rpms. I logged boost on both runs and continue to log boost now and the high rpm boost numbers are identical when you compare the DCIs and STETT CAI. That is a second important piece of evidence. While direct testing has not been done, the indirect testing overwhelmingly says it is providing sufficient flow. |

I was looking at your last picture in your first post and it looks like the coupler coming from the intercooler to the charge pipe is off.

The t-bolt is just tightened around the lip of the plastic pipe coming off the intercooler. It was easier to lock down there versus trying to pull it to the end of the pipe.

^thanks so much for this review "FBI"! your reviews are some of the best on e90, always thorough & factual as opposed to my reviews, for example, that are just me being happy, haha!
the data results & undeniable proof of what the cai does in comparison to the dc system is really helpful & i will definitely consider getting the cai. although, i'm still really happy with the data results the DCI made, especially for an open air flow system!

Former Boosted IS,
Just wanted to add my praises to the others. Another supreme review! It is very clear that you go the extra mile to make a complete and thorough review every time. I'm finishing ironing my mod wish-list, and your reviews have been instrumental in the process! - SFD507 |

Great technical review on a great product, Former Boosted IS.
I just wanted to add that in the 10mths that I had the STETT intake, I hadn't had any problems with it. In Singapore, we suffer from heavy monsoon rains regularly and I have driven in those conditions with the STETT intake WITH a Vorsteiner V-35 hood! The car didn't miss a beat at all. I work in a heavy industrial area and after 6mths, I thought that I needed to clean the K&N filter but when I removed it, it still look fine. Cheers!

Former Boosted IS, I just want to say thank you for just a great review & DIY, I installed this w/ a buddy of mine Thursday & it was a breeze! I literally put my lap top on top of the engine cover & followed your instructions almost verbatim & the install couldn't have been more smooth! I'm really pleased w/ the intake & am really glad I decided to go with a CAI

Digging this good review up a month later.
So its a 2 hour job to remove and install... I would like to have a working CAI, but it seems very much a PITA to remove for every oil change or service bay visit |
