I certainly would not spend 5 hours on my car if I wasn't atleast applying one coat of some type of wax. My favorite is Liquid Souveran http://www.autogeek.net/pinliqsouvwa.html. Even with a coat of wax it only takes me 2 hours or less to ENTIRELY wash an wax the car. The only time I will spend 5 hours on it is if I break out the PC7424 and polish the entire car followed by AIO followed by a coat LSW. I have 0 marring / swirl marks on my paint so I am not sure why it is taking you 5 hours to do the same job, I get everywhere as well, dooor jams, trunk jam, getting wax on and off all the plastic and emblems etc..

Join a detail forum like DC or Autopia, and see how much more you have to learn. You're technique and product choice shows you are a beginner. Atleast in my book. But what do I know...

I can't say much about Autopia as its soo congested, a lot of bad info gets through, but I have a high post count over at DC which I can say were well invested. What are SOS pads? |

Unless you needed help removing somehting on metal, who ever posted that advise should have gotten banned... But yea, I understand how something like that could have steered you away... But some of the advise here sounds like its coming right from the vendor or manufactuer. |

However, I did notice a thumb print so it was worth it. Now I take my car down to the particle accelerator at the atomic research establishment. They use ultra high energy x rays to illuminate the space between the sub atomic particles that make up the surface of the paint. By bombarding these with exactly the right quantity of Higgs Bosun particles I will hopefully either: 1. End up with a really clean car 2. Create a black hole beneath the earth which will suck up the entire galaxy. Seriously though (sorry bmw executive we should be ashamed of ourselves) when I do was my car myself (every couple of weeks or so) I probably spend about 30 mins shampooing, rinsing and cleaning the alloys with a wheel brush, then a further 30 mins waxing it with a turtle wax 'wax it wet' spray which you just wipe of with a clean chamois. My car does 30,000 miles a year, so I have to be realistic about the condition it will get into - with stone chips, door dings and all the other horrible things that happen to cars in daily use. |

I just washed my car and took me about 40 minutes... I did notice some marks (dried up waterspots I think) on the chrome grill. How do you guys clean the grill ? Just washing didn't really do the job.

![]() Pretty effective. Follow it with some PAM to keep the food from sticking to the surface (make sure to spray pam before grill is ignited)... ![]()

BMWExec: I would suggest you use either Z6 or Z8, not both after a cleaning. That will save some time. I personally like Z8 better than Z6 and now only use Z6 in between layers of Z polish.
I admire your attention to detail and think of the next owner of your car when the M3 is delivered! Lucky bastage.
