which octane gas?
I just installed a JB3 in an otherwise stock 335i.
My question: what is the highest MAP setting i can use on 91 octane gas ( no 93 in SoCal to my knowledge) thoughts on mixing w 100 octane? what about running pure 100 octane? thanks |

I'd like to know as well for running pure 100-103 octane. Is this safe for our cars? |

I just installed a JB3 V1.4 yesterday and am so happy I did. The car started up just fine and took it for a drive on the default map 3.
It felt very smooth and stock across the RPM range under low to moderate throttle. Then I hit the throttle all the way at 40 mph, my seat slammed into my kidneys! The thing bucks like a wild mustang when driven hard, yet is smooth as butter when driven normally. You can take grandma to church on Sundays on a leisurely, smooth drive that she will enjoy, yet have terrific rubber burning power on hand. There's nothing quite like laying two long lines of rubber on the church parking lot! This tune is significantly better than JB+ because of these attributes and the power levels involved. Will try map 5 with 93 octane later today... |

I run map 5 on a bone stock car but I have 93 octane readily available. No codes.

Congrats, looks like alot of new Jb3 owners within the last few weeks! Let the car adapt on map3 for a few days or as long as you have done a few WOT pulls on map 3 for adaption and if you got 93 octane, try out map5 and see how it works. 40mph kickdowns for AT 335i with the Jb3 are just brutal, i recommened everyone try it ![]() |

Yep, those 40 mph kickdowns on the AT are quite horrific, but quite fun!
Here are my impressions thus far on the JB3 v1.4 on my stock car running 93 octane (perspectives of an ex-JB+ user): MAP 1 - Extremely smooth with more power higher in the RPM band than stock. Feels a little like a JB+ at 50%, but the extra power is not cut-off at the top. It would make for a nice daily map for those who currently use JB+ at 50% or 75% and demand smoothness, which is seriously lacking in the JB+. You don't know what you're missing until you feel the powerband of the JB3. MAP 2 - Extremely smooth and feels like stock, that is, until you hit the throttle. Excellent performance, the same power or little more than a JB+ at 90% or 100%, but not jerky. Due to the smoothness, that low-end mountain of torque unique to the JB+ is never felt with the JB3 - which I kind of miss. Take-offs feel stock-like, not aggressive, so that refined feel and smoothness of your BMW is maintained. I personally prefer this map over Map 3; will be using it as my daily driver map. Map 3 - Just like Map 2, but take-offs are more aggressive (more boost at low RPMs.) Not great in heavy stop and go traffic. You got to feather the throttle or the car will tend to launch. Otherwise, this is an awesome sport driving map and highly recommended. Map 4 - This map felt like a boosted version of Map 2. It is suppose to be lagfix version of map 5. Map 5 - Simply amazing. Felt much faster than Map 4 for some odd reason and made Map 3 seem quite mild in comparison. This map will literally throw you in your seat and pin you down with acceleration. 0-80 mph on this map felt as quick as 0-60 on JB+ at 50% (probably not true, but you get the idea.) The speedometer needle spins with a never-before seen urgency as you accelerate. Get this...I turned off DTC at 65 mph and floored it...sure enough, I laid two patches of rubber on the dry asphalt pavement as seen from the rear view mirror! I guess the compound is quite soft on the RFTs. Just awesome power. This map is overkill for daily driving, unless you value performance over perfect driveability. Some of us older guys cannot handle entering the time-space continuum on a daily basis, as it affects our bowels unfavorably ![]() I could not try the other maps, as I do not have any bolt-ons being otherwise stock. I can only imagine how the remaining maps feel like... ![]() Last edited by detrick; 11-28-2009 at 09:32 PM.. |

Yeah, I really like the JB3 v1.4. Just a great overall product.
Here are some additional notes to supplement what I posted earlier, if it is of any use to anyone (i.e. running completely stock, 93 octane): - Map 2 is the highest one can go before there is a noted change in driveability. This map feels completely stock until you slam the throttle. Then you feel the 13 psi of boost hitting your kidneys. Great map for everyday driving. - Map 3 offers a nice balance between driveability and performance. Take-offs tend to be a little aggressive on my AT, so for daily driving, Map 2 is ideal for me. However, you may prefer this map instead. - Map 4 felt too aggressive and jerky on my AT at the low-end, and to be honest, I didn't like it. Map 5 felt much better to me, as it was aggressive, yet not jerky. Anyone else experience this?? I would have liked to make Map 4 my daily driving map due to the higher boost level, but that is not going to happen. - Map 5 is smooth and aggressive, perfect for those days when you are on the hunt for a street race (yes, I do know that is dangerous and illegal.) You will love this map - trust me, the perfect weekend map. Note that driveability suffers a little, as the boost is relatively high and the throttle response is aggressive. - Map 6 felt a bit more refined than Map 4, and had more boost. The car just flies on this map and the low-end response is still remarkably manageable. It makes you feel like you can take 911 Carreras all day long, which is certainly not out of the question with this particular map. No codes thrown and no CEL's running stock. - Map 7 is outrageously fast. You will make triple digit speeds in no time. Hard to believe that a stock car can accelerate like it did on this map. Makes you feel invincible. Very aggressive throttle response. Just tapping the accelerator pushes you into your seat. Thank God for DTC and DSC to control all that power on the street, as it feels like you are strapped to a Saturn V rocket. One needs wider street tires (or slicks) to truly appreciate this map. No codes or CEL's on my car. Will use this map on special occasions, being stock. Hope this helps....get a JB3 v1.4!!! Last edited by detrick; 11-30-2009 at 12:16 AM.. |

I've been running JB3 1.4 map 7, MS catless downpipes, Injen DCI, and 95 octane for 2-3 days now. Still no CEL even tho I don't have the downpipe sim. Is that normal? Is it possible I wont get a CEL or is the CEL imminent?
