That was before DPs, etc. I am now getting consistant 9.4s on 91 octane. With a couple days adaptation on the DPs. I ran 3 runs last night, all very consistant, soft 2nd gear launches, 2.1 60' times.
1/4 mile runs 12.0 @ 122.9 mph 12.0 @ 123.1 mph 12.0 @ 123.2 mph What amazes me is the 4.3 second 60-100 mph split. (0-60 3.9 sec, 0-100 8.2 second=4.3 seconds 60-100) I looked at the Car and Driver and Road and Track tests, I can't even find a Z06 that is that quick from 60-100. (this is the range you might pass someone on the fwy really quick). So perhaps a little more practical than the 130mph runs. Anyways. this is quicker than almost all but the fastest exotics. To give you and idea, the Z06 is rated at 4.7 seconds, the ZR1 is 4.2 seconds. Craig, can you see what your 60-100 mph times are? Any idea on your 1/4 mile traps you are getting now on the Vbox? I really believe my car is near the limit now with the heavy, stock cat back, and intercooler set up.

As you can see on the first post, my best 60-100 was 4.39 and that was at aproximately 400 ft above sea level.

These come from 6 speed on line. That is a forum with more of the high end European exotics. They are really into this testing. You have to do it on a GPS Vbox, and when you are done, send the test file into the moderator who examines it for authenticity, and then once approved, posts the results. That is also how my BMW numbers made the list .

Hey guys,
I know that this may not interest that many since people are happy with just putting the Vbox on the windshield, but I found a cable to connect the Vbox to the OEM GPS antenna. If this works then we will be able to put the Vbox anywhere in the car. This is a great option for us track junkies since we aren't allowed to have anything stuck to our windshield on road courses. I'll keep you guys updated.

I hooked up the OEM antenna to the Vbox and now the signal is A LOT stronger and it's a lot cleaner looking. I have mine in the glove box now! ![]() If anyone is interested, I may be able to get a group by going on with these cables.

Please include elevation change (grade) when posting vbox runs. It's the most important parameter to control when making comparisons.

I've now got all the stuff to my intake and will use a smooth 2.5 " hose and direct the intake stud downwards in the air box. I think this is very important, just compare how intake runners in cylinder heads are shaped. Air-flow is severly disturbed if trying to force it over a 90 degree sharp bend. The new solution may (or may not...) remove the performance difference vs. DCI, and in very hot driving conditions it should become on top. |

I found some old Vbox times from this summer (performed with normal street tyres, on the street with 93 oct):
0-60 mph = 4.45 s 60-130 mph = 10.59 s 60-100 mph = 4.58 s 1/4 Mile MPH = 117.44 1/8 Mile MPH = 94.45 I'm curious to see if meth, some good tyres and a differential may improve the outcome... ![]() Last edited by Big Tom; 01-09-2010 at 05:49 AM.. |

BTW, here are pictures of where I tapped into the antenna in the trunk and where I have the Vbox located now (in the glove box). I have it in the glove box and when I'm doing runs, I put it in the space between the glove box and the center console like in the 3rd and 4th pic. (The curly wire is for my cell phone so it has nothing to do with the Vbox.)

I trimmed the piece inside the Air box to make it flush.
Maybe this will help with the turbulence.

I did a few pulls the other day and hit 4.39 seconds 60-100. This is with 100% non-performance snow tires (as in scary wobbly at speeds over 50-60mph) and with my roof rack, also with a non-ideal map. I was pretty excited with the results considering how heavy my car is and the other variables I mentioned. I'm pretty sure I can easily hit under 4 seconds. These cars MOVE

I think it really comes down to a couple things with the 60-100. 1. What diameter of tires were being used? 2. Was the shift done after 100 or before? The reason why I'm saying this is because you can go to a high performance summer setup and if the tires have a smaller overall diameter, you could get a slower 60-100 time. My 60-100 was good during the Mr. 5 intake because my shift was done after I hit 100. The reason why my times weren't as good with the DCIs was because my shifts were done before 100. First Graph was my 9.78 (60-130) with the DCI. The next graph is with my intake. The second run is my fastest 60-100 time. You can see why in the graph. I must have shifted right at 7k for some reason.

I missed one run, apparently my fastest was 4.21 seconds. This was while hovering around 3500rpm's and flooring it. Zero shifts. The cooler weather is definitely on my side though, starting IAT's were right around 50°.. and this was after a few pulls hah
I need to go out and do more of these, they're easy to replicate which is nice. my winter setup: stock 17" wheels with 205/50 snow tires ![]() Last edited by jpsimon; 01-11-2010 at 12:10 AM.. |
