Mine was $15....

No idea why it was so low, guessing it is because I just bought the car in Dec. 09?

Don't feel dirty - it was part of stimulating car sales. It won't last.

If you really feel dirty donate it to your town or local charity I can give you my address too...

Anyone know how they determine the original value of your vehicle? The website says "Figures are the manufacturers’ list prices for vehicles in their year of manufacture." Does that include options, or just the base price without options?

Nobody knows? Can someone take your excise tax amount, and work it back to the assumed list price using this table here and see if the prices include options?

I'd say manufactures list price would include options on the car. more or less the sticker price of the car.

this is key though:
In the model year
90%

In the second year
60%

In the third year
40%

In the fourth year
25%

In the fifth and succeeding years
10%

One addition: if you have a MY vehicle that is *ahead* of the actual year, it is 50% for that year. So if you bought a 2012 MY vehicle in the middle of 2011, you would pay 50% for 2011, 90% for 2012, etc.

It's based on MSRP of the base model in the model year, without options. So my 328xi 2007 is based on an MSRP of something like $32k, even though it had $10k in options. $32k

My bill last year was $215.
This year it should be around $80 = (32000x10%x25/1000).

So a 52K 335i is only counted as 36K (price w/ no options) for excise tax purposes? Awesome, this is the ONLY area where BMW's nickel-and-dime scheme has a benefit

Assuming model year (90% value):

$1260 / 2.5% / 90% = $56,000
