Cheers mate, interesting figures. I've also found the quotes go DOWN by over £200 if I tell them its off road parked, makes a big difference here.

We're moving to an ST16 code next year, can you try that for me?

Right, this insurance thing is peeing me off now.

32 years old, 6 years NCD, no convictions, no accidents in 5 year history they ask about.

Last year i paid £390 with Direct Line, they are now asking £685. Cheapest I've found so far are Tesco (£587) and BMW (£617).

Grr. TBH if I find nothing cheaper I'd go with BMW for that extra peace of mind (but would still be fuming at the annual increase!).

Forking uninsured drivers and bar stewards claiming comp for minor or fake injuries - should be shot at dawn the lot of 'em

Rant over.

Will, when you say Direct line are £685, was that a renewal through the post?

After all my problems and zillions of quotes, I found Sainsbury's to be the cheapest by some way at £1050 in the end after some bartering with terms.

They're underwritten by Esure, but Esure wouldn't quote me if I went to them direct.

A-Plan were the worst bunch of tossers, after calling me back, then putting me immediately on hold - which I just hate!! then they couldn't even get close by over a grand.

Then worst of all they passed my number to a load of call centres who are STILL mithering me.

They just phone me up and say 'we have a quote for you sir' then put you cold through to an insurer who doesn't even have your details.

Then they call back to ask if the quote was ok? damn cheek.

No the DL quote is direct from their website. The last two years the renewal quote through the post has been much higher than plugging it into the website again. Chancers.

26 years old, 7 years no claims, Glasgow postcode: £600 with Admiral (used MultiCar but it's a rip off). £350 for the Clio.

Since I got the policy I have received a TS10 from some bawbags cops with nothing better to do than chase me down for what could be argued was not a red light. So I am dreading my renewal.

I had the same issue, was discussed not so long ago on another thread. But last year, before renewal I paid £650 for the 335d. At the time was 29yrs old, 4yrs NCB, 6 points and was for Business Class 1 (30k miles). This year, at renewal I was 30yrs old, 5 NCB, 3 points + Business again, and the quote was over £1000. That was with specialist insurance company who I had used on my GTI and TT. They said that lots of underwriters due to the weather, had increased all premiums (on top of the national 15-20% increase) on rear wheel drive Mercs and BMW's. Tried all the compare sites, and closest I could get was about £980. After all the faffing around, and being misold a policy by AXA I ended up going with Swinton. £900 all in OUCH!!

But, if I want to drive the 35d, I suppose its a price worth paying.

Yes mate, can't believe it has been 3 yrs already. Seems to have flown past....

Love her to bits, but is a real handful. Far better than my riding allows. But awesome fun. Done loads of trips on it, and did the Ring last year too which was awesome. Has sooo many mods on it, too many to list. But pushing around 175ish BHP at the back wheel...so not bad for two wheels! Ironically exactly half of what my 35d pushes out :-)

Anyway...enough of us hijacking this thread!

Zurich only ask if you have anything in the last THREE years.

In my case it made the difference between one SP30 and two.

I've had several firms ask 'do you have a clean licence'?

I say yes as both my offences are 4+ years, so expired (SP50 3p, Sp50 ban)

Then I tell them I have points but they are expired as they were in 2005 and they said 'that's what we mean, have you had any offences in the last 5 years sir?

I tell them that isn't what they actually asked and they say that they need to know if you 've had any offences in the last 5 years?

I say why don't they ask that and they say we always ask if you have a clean licence meaning have you had any offences in the last 5 years???? Do they know what they are talking about, quite worrying IMO.

Very confusing.

But claims history seems to always be just for last 3 years.
