I can't seem to find a free blackjack site to play against others. Zynga poker is a blast but looking for something similar in blackjack. Any suggestions?

I found myself in the same situation as the beginners here, 20+ years ago. I was trying to memorize the table, or reference it at the table. My wife and I only hit the casino maybe 2x a year if that. A night out when my folks watch the kids.

I do "decent". Meaning that I rarely come home "down". At worst... I'll play for 4+ hours on a couple hundred bucks and walk away.

A buddy of mine, who rolls pretty big taught me this going in when I was all confused about what do I do when I have this and the dealer has this sort of thing...

Find a dealer who banters, jokes, etc. I won't get into "profiling" certain types of dealers but there are a certain type who are cold, mechanical, methodical and don't really care how *you* are doing. Dealers have no stake in the game. The casino does. Good dealers will help you and "pace" the game to the table. They want tips. The more "fun" they make it, the better they do.

So... Stand back and watch the table before you sit down. Find a dealer who's having fun and making the experience fun (even if you're losing money) for the table. When you do eventually sit down, *TIP* the dealer, especially if you're new and need help. As I said, if you're winning, it's not coming out of their pocket. I still tip generously when I go but, as a beginner, that was huge. You don't need to constantly reference a cheat-sheet, a good dealer will help you. I can't count the number of times I asked for a hit and the dealer was like, "Are you sure? Look at my hand." or... I waved off a hit and the same response.

Just find a table with a fun dealer, a moderate pace, and tip. Most dealer like to "play with you" when you tip. You put a bet on the circle for them and if you win, they win. Some prefer the tip, straight up, but that's not typical in my experience.

So... long story short, stand back, find a "fun" table, with a "fun" dealer and tip. He/she won't let you go wrong. If you try to make a wrong move, a good dealer, who wants tips and play at his table, will help.

My favorite dealer of all time... "Al" at the Mirage in Vegas... Dealing out of a 6-deck ShuffleMaster... I'd get a few bad hands in a row. "Al... Can we reboot this damn automatic shuffling thing?" He didn't but... He'd disappear below deck, pound something, a few kicks, then come back up. It was comical. He didn't do anything but he just played into our ill-conceived theory that something was wrong with the ShuffleMaster. ...and he got good tips for it. It was all just joking around.

When the table turned and we walked away, Al thanked us and understood why. Find a good dealer, tip them, you'll pick it up, they'll help you.
