That's completely different than just cruising along at 90 in 4th.

I just drove cross-country and was doing 90 in 4th many times after a pass or pointless burst of acceleration. If our engines die I'll see you at the dealership and will gladly give you a high-five while they're being fixed.
I think OP was talking about cruising in 4th gear consistently while driving at 80-90 mph on the freeway. You're talking about passing and random bursts of acceleration.

90 in 4th...I do it all the time working my way thru highway traffic. No braking, just riding the RPM's, 3 to 4k as traffic holes and bunching dictate.
You are correct, 4k is the sweat spot for that engine, the response is terrific there.

6th gear for sure. no need to downshift when passing the car has enough power to pass in 6th

6th gear, obviously. The gear is designed for the highway and fuel efficiency, so why would you use any other gear when the 335 has enough torque to pull in 6th?

I keep it in 3rd at that speed... because the engine just sounds so sweet at redline!

Wait you guys use 6th gear when your on the highway? Man I have been doing it all wrong....I start in 6th and then down shift as the speed increases...I knew I was doing something wrong...when I am on the highway my engine makes a weird sound...usually the RPM's jump off the gauge...so probably like 15k rpm...I heard that revving the engine high shoots out carbon deposits so its probably good for the car anyway...

Roger that. Even in 6th gear, if I drop down to 55, the car still has enough torque and power to pass.

Depending on traffic, if I'm driving at around 50-60, I'll leave it in 5th. If I'm able to cruise at my normal speed, around 75-80, it's 6th gear.

Wait...I think you're doing it right. I'm going to try this tomorrow.

You guys know that handle looking thing to the right of your seat? The thing where when you lift up on it, it makes a clicking noise? I've been driving with that thing up for a few weeks, the car always displays a warning in the dash cluster that says "BRAKE". Does this mean I need brake fluid?

Hmmm...weird...that might be it. Try pulling it a bit harder, all the way to the last click...maybe the brake system isn't getting enough pressure from that handle?

Understand how much unecessary stress you're putting on you engine doing this. I don't baby my car at all and I'm always passing people like crazy. This is like running a horse flat out for an hour straight and thinking it's ok. Just because you're under redline doesn't mean everything is fine. Redline is the absolute limit of rpm speed. It's your car though.

@Krozi: I feel that starting in this gear called R building up speed, then dumping the clutch in to 6th is the most effective way to move quickly. Give that a try...
