Yes BMW Germany recommendeds PAO Based European Castrol Edge 5W30 available only at the dealership for the N54. Here are the pictures as promised:

Yes you can, just go to your dealership, and ask for part number: 07 51 0 002 545. Your diesel though, so its not for you. Its very important to note that this is not the same as: 07 51 0 017 866, also sold at the dealership as 5W30 synthetic. My oil analyzer showed it degraded in less than 2,000 miles in my engine. the dealership then changed my oil to the 545 part number. Turns out the analyzer isn't useless, as track rat would have you believe.

You still haven't told me what your TBN and TAN readings were.
