What a nightmare found out can't go to 35series too high hardly any choices in australia for my 19" rims no bridgestones fit non runflats
no michelins fit
no pirelli tyres fit only track ones and runflats
load ratings is the problem with bmw

In the usa a lot of choices
265/30/19 This size not availble in australia from michelins the problem
235/35/19

Looks like importing the PS2s from the usa.
Quote from sydney for pirelli runflats is $2250 to my door + fitting

Gents - a bit of a tangent question.... When fitting tyres to wheels - is there a "better" service provider that won't scratch the wheels when fitting?

Garage List
I got a price on Pirelli Pzero (rosso) which are OEM on GT3's so they should be OK. $530 (255-30-19) See review here
Also for Goodyear F1 Assym (which are their top of the range tyre) which has some good reviews for $395
I did get a price on Hankook Evo V12s at $515
And finally the Khumo KU31 at $355

Now I am really confused.
I have read mixed reviews of the Pirelli's. I have had great ones and ordinary Pirellis, so I am unsure.
Most top of the range Goodyears which I have bought in the past have been OK.
I had Hankook's on my E46 and they were only average.
The best tyres I had were Michelin Pilot Sport PS2's which came as OEM on the E46. They didn't last that long, but were very good.

The really annoying thing is that the car is only 9 months old and I didn't expect to have to get a new set so soon.
If I was getting all 4, then I would have gone with PS2's but as I am only getting the rears, I am thinking of going cheap - Khumo

I only use Bob Jane at Chermside. I've known the owner there for 20+ years and never once have they scratched a wheel or anything on any of my cars. My current rims require a reverse fitment which means it's 500 times more probable to get scratched in the process but they know what they are doing.

I'd try the F1's as they get outstanding reviews both here and on tirerack, etc. They are also a bit cheaper

Really.... what a bummer. I too had always thought that shipping cost was not part of the value of the stock.

I would go with the F1 over the other ones too. It was rank top place in one of the tyre test done in Wheels or Motor last year. Cant go wrong with that tire, especially in the wet apparently.

I have the F1 assymetric in 17". I think they have amazing grip in both wet and dry. They ride well and don't tramline, so I couldn't be happier, although the 19" will have a different feel obviously. I haven't done a lot of km on them so I can't say about the life expectancy.

Whatever non-RFT tyres you get you should replace all 4 RFT flats.

$750 sounds a bit steep mate, jp330 was quoted $395

Toyo T1R's come in 265/30/19. Calls to phone around and try a few places in Sydney. I actually wouldn't mind trying the F1's myself.

If you go through tirerack, make sure it's UPS or fedex, not BAX/DBSchenker as you will get with heaps of additional fees upon collection.

I had 235 & 265's on my stock rims ok.

I wonder if I was quoted a different Goodyear tyre?
Seems like a huge difference in price, so something has to be wrong, unless the ones which I was quoted were made in China.
I also asked for 265-30-19, as they are cheaper as they are a more common size, so that may have some factor in it. 6mm overall diameter larger shouldn't throw out the speedo too much.
Still, this review shows the Kuhmo's as being better than the F1's.
I was told that the new F1's are coming out of China now, so they aren't as good as they used to be, but that was from a Pirelli dealer, so I am not sure.

The confusing thing is that there are two versions of the Goodyear Eagle F1.

Eagle F1 GS-D3 is the budget version - I'm not sure where it is made. This is definitely the most commonly sold version in Australia.

Eagle F1 Assymetric is the premium one, made in Germany.

Only the F1 Assymetric comes in 265-30-19 according to the Goodyear website.

Thought i would post some info i got from Tire Rack for all those interested.

I enquired about Continental ExtremeContact DW, which was the top rated tyre in this size.

Front: 225/45ZR17
Sidewall Style: Blackwall
Serv. Desc: 91W
UTQG: 340 AA A Price: $131.00 (each)
Estimated Availability: In Stock
Qty:2

Rear: 255/40ZR17
Sidewall Style: Blackwall
Serv. Desc: 94W
UTQG: 340 AA A Price: $157.00 (each)
Estimated Availability: In Stock
Qty:2

Set of 4: $576.00

The total shipped to Melbourne was USD$887.17, so $310 USD to ship here.. total -$1000 AUD.

I don't need tyres just yet, but good to know the prices. I enquired about these tyres at Tyrepower and of course he directed me straight to a Toyo PROXES T1R, they were going to be $410ea for the rears and about $270ea on the Fronts, so about $1500 fitted including an alignment, of course Tirerack don't stock Toyo's ...grrr..

Yup.. they are fitted to my car now (as a daily tyre) They are quite impressive in the dry, good lateral grip, quiet and a LOT more compliant than the OEM RFT's.

Having said that, wet weather performance is pretty average.. if your just punting around they are fine, anything more than this and they get a bit hairy (although it is a good excuse for a bit of spontaneous O/L)

Bang for Buck, I am still pleased with them.

I've just purchased some new wheels (still sticking to 19's) and as my car has no hope to break traction, I went with the Hankook Ventura S1 EVO. Cheap as chips!!! I will bolt up the new wheels on the weekend and retire the VM-714 (for a while !!)
