older BMW (huge selection), remove electronic bits you don't like from your current car, a lotus elise, a dodge viper gts, an s2000, a z4m. there's many choices

Same amount of horse power that was added to the e90 with the addition of all that weight from useless electronics/sensors/gadgets.

I will stop complaining, when they close this board down. 95% of the threads are complaints. I wasn't trying to complain, just making an observation. I figured people rather talk about something other than long cranks and HPFP issues.

1) Fork over the $20k for a rust-free e30 m3 located in california.
2) Drive it back home 3) Buy an s50 4) rebuild/turbocharge the s50 5) Put the s50 in the e30 m3 6) Upgrade rims, brakes, suspension on e30 m3 7) Laugh as you destroy any new BMW at the track or on the street, particularly the new M3 which costs upwards of $60k. Be satisfied with the fact that you spent only $20k on one of the most coveted, pure BMW's ever built, and spent $15-$20k modding it to make it a unique performance monster. Any e90 m3's pumping out 1000hp yet? Doubt it. Countless examples of e30's doing it... the e90 m3 is a great car for the modern american consumer (idiot). And before you flame me for not being able to afford an e90 m3 or some petty shit like that, I could pay for a maxed out one in cash today, (not with my parents money like half the shmucks on this forum), so, no. Enjoy some pics/vids of a real BMW, and not a modernized japanese-toyota-looking thing with ipod integration and idrive and icantdrive amenities for the modern consumer. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I like my 128, very simplistic in the gadget department. It has everything that you need, no huge ass screens or anything like that that gets in the way on a fun drive. But Idrive is cool, I just don't think that I like the idea of the next generation idrive letting you read your messages while driving. I find that intrusive, I like not knowing what's in my inbox while I drive.

Yeah, the OP is right. I miss the old BMWs which felt more raw. My brother's 01 525i feels much better than my dad's 06 525i despite the newer model having more power. The 01 seems more alive and has power throughout the powerband which the 06 seems not to have. The 06 is less reliable and the air in the car seems very dirty and basically smells horrible despite of being in the dealership for many repairs.
I would love to have a 330 with the performance package instead of my 335i which i think is way too complicated and not worth the price and headaches. Love older cars. |

I figure they could cut out at least $5000-$8000 of electronic and other fancy pants or nice-to-have stuff in the X5 35d that I could actually do without. I sometimes wonder what these cars are going to be worth when they're 8 years old, as complex as they are getting. I'm not saying the stuff is worthless, useful, or not interesting or fun. Just not necessary. I'd rather spend the cash on something else and get a lighter and more reliable vehicle in return.
What could one strip off the vehicle to make it more like the lean/mean cars of the past? |

You see, heterosexuals often breed, and that causes them to often need more than the 2 seats in your adorably cute car. They also sometimes have friends. And since a 325i auto is already fast enough to get you arrested, heteros who don't have wee-wee issues don't necessarily feel the need to prove anything by buying more car than they can afford or need. And since they're not wreckless insane maniacs they realize that they're unlikely to need to drift around corners in suburban traffic, so they decide to go with the conveniences of an automatic as a compromise. Some may have knee issues from playing football, or wide lats, something males too big to fit in your adoreable cute car often suffer with in small cars. So forgive them if they don't all wear scarves and driving gloves. But they still might appreciate a simpler, lighter, more basic car that handles well.
