That's awesome. I don't think I'd have any problem with that, except for incoming storms. THAT would suck.

http://www.jttowerservice.net/ They said $10 - $15 a foot is the normal rate depending on how high the tower actually is (higher, more danger, more expensive I suppose?). So using the height of 1,768 feet from the video: 1768x10 = $17,680 or 1768x15 = $26,520 Which is pretty good for one day's work.

An elevator that drops you off more than a quarter of a mile into the air.

I wouldn't bother screaming. I'd try and see if I could wack it before I hit the ground.

He did that to change a light bulb, Some day they will replace all the lights with LEDs and they will put guys out of jobs or their paychecks will be deeply cut.

Who's gonna go up their and change it? Also the electrical box somewhere lower in the tower could break too. Shit happens. Plus LEDs are longer lasting and consume less power, but still it might need to be replaced "one day"....probably 15-20 years later. Imagine the climber already dropped dead and bunch of management standing standing at the bottom of the tower looking up thinking "which intern should we send up to replace the bulb?"

As you hear in the video OHSA allows them to free climb with out a harness under certain circumstances. You know what those circumstances are? that a plane can hit one of those things and kill more than the guy climbing. The climber's life is less important than plane full of people and if a harness is going to slow him down he does not need it. There are a small group of people who do this and other very dangerous things like underwater welling and salvage, skyscraper iron workers and the such and these people make big 6 figure incomes. All they need to do is risk their lives for a few hours every so often and they get to go home not worry about bullshit office politics, and they tell everyone to f themselves and they enjoy life and thank god they did not die that day and roll around in all the money they have. |
