ASR......in this latest meet they had a dyno and i dyno my car with a friend of mine that also has full bolt ons and he only made 381 hp while i made 395 hp....and we both feel we could have done soo much better with another one. I know my car went from 388 hp to 395 hp on map 1 with autotuning from the procede and he has the JB3.

explain that to me when he has a DCI.....95 degree weather with 30% humidity... i would think he would make more power because his intake is open while mine is closed and this dyno had one tiny little blower pointing pretty much at the intercooler

Youre most likely correct in comparison to the stock box and paper filter...
I'm just wondering how they compare to your typical open-air DCI...
Since the filters look smaller...

I read a bunch of these posts and the stats, the opinions, etc. It really made me nuts. There are so many theories and every decent company has a decent sales pitch too. Some members say they feel no gains, some say they feel the gain, some like the sound, some don't care, etc. I personally wanted gains and didn't want to throw any error codes, etc. I liked the DINAN, but !@# that is a lot for something I wasn't sure would produce much. I also liked the AFE DCI with the heat shield, but I read some members thought this actually slowed them down! Like I said, all of the different conflicting opinions and facts made me crazy. I ended up putting a set of those "scoops" behind the grille (which I have no idea if it does anything) and I put in a performance drop-in in the stock air-box. I am running a Helix FMIC, Dinan Stage 2 tune, AE Catless exhaust. I am still somewhat confused if I am leaving anything on the table as far as the intake is concerned?

stock

stock
dci

dci feels the best. tangible power. heatsoak in the summer can be counteracted by an upgraded FMIC.

im still torn besides BMS drop in or BMS DCI... I told him I live in NJ (I see 4 seasons) and that I was going to DD the car with only a tune on 93 oct... he said DCI would still be better. After pming various members who know their shit and i respect on the forum.. it seems a DCI is better than drop in.

better is really efficiency for the turbos. i dislike the look of the dci - esp since many BMW dealerships will think you're abusing the car if you have ANY type of modification and will deny doing work for you - but they alleviate the stress that turbos encounter.

a DCI is reasonably easy to uninstall.

Putting the OEM airbox back on is kind of a pain but a hairdryer helps.

How do you use a hairdryer? I've noticed it's difficult to put the stock airbox back on sometimes.

in cold weather, the stock airbox can be a little annoying to reinstall, but when it warms up reasonably, not difficult at all.

I just use my sister's hairdryer or a heat gun to heat up the inlet hoses for a few seconds so the plastic expands. Then the stock airbox tubes slip in very easily.
