Adding the BSH Catch Can is one of the simplest ways to increase the performance and longevity of your twin turbo engine. The N54 specific Oil Catch Can features an important layer of aluminum mesh baffling to aid in the separation of oil and air upon entering the catch can. The main reason to add the BSH Oil Catch Can to your N54 engine is the reduction/elimination of blow-by. Blow-by is caused when a combustion in the engine forces fuel, air, and moisture past the piston rings and into the crankcase. From there, the blow-by is released by the crank case vents and back into the intake pipe. This occurs on all engines, but is worse on turbo engines due to the stronger combustion. If nothing is done, this excess “gunk” will build up in the valvetrain, turbo, intercooler, and intercooler piping. You guys can view a review by Former_Boosted_IS on E90post here.

Guys, I've contacted BSH to see if their N54 setup will work with the N55 and they were not sure. Can you guys tell me if anybody tried it yet?

2 small worm clamps to tighten over the fittings, and a new washer for the plug, and no more leaks. Sure the kit could have come with that stuff... but if 2 dollars and a pit stop at a hardware store is too much... well. It takes longer to complain about it than it does to just fix it. You can't help people sometimes. Also, the RR is not plastic. It's aluminum. -scheherazade |

Am I missing something here?..body maybe aluminum but the side fitting is plastic BSH and AR have no plastic.. all metal..glad you were able to fix it..but I would rather not have to worry about the OCC springing a leak and go to a hardware store everytime..even if it does cost $2 Last edited by tibra1; 12-18-2010 at 02:57 PM.. |

I just ordered a bsh the other day too. I was also considering the Ar can but wasn't thrilled with moving a vacuum canister to fit it. Just more work come dealer time.
