You can't just make up things without showing proof. There have been lots of dynes proving that DCIs make more HP than stock. Of course, assuming we are referring to a tuned car

The intake is truly beautiful. The regular dual cones are butt ugly. Would certainly pay 2x the money for that intake instead of the dual cones setup, but alas, I don't have a need for the intake as I'm going giac stage 1 and intercooler only.

I would buy one of these if they made one for the e89! I always believed that cold air is better than hot air...that is why Im sticking with the stock intake although I have BMS DCIs from my 135i sitting around.

Congrats BuraQ - the intake looks great and it sounds like it's living up to your expectations performance-wise as well. Have you thought about replacing the OEM intake pieces with CF to match your Dinan? I think that would look fantastic - especially if you could find CF that matched the Dinan CF. I'd love to get one of these as well but like many others, I'm having trouble with the price. While the CF looks beautiful, I'd be happy with one made out of BMW OEM intake plastic for 1/4 of the price but yours certainly looks great. Oh, and you really need to clean up that engine bay now with that jewel under the hood!

Sounds like a good idea to find a cf version of BMW's OEM bottom intake. Where would I find something like this though ?

lol @ cleaning engine bay. This is the second time I have been told about this. Will get done soon, but more than likely have to get someone to do it for me and I just found a local shop who would do the job for me. Thanks.

Great pic's, the Dinan CAI looks amazing not to mention what it adds to the performance levels of the Dinan mods.

Interesting comment from Scott...but makes sense, address airflow/breathing in then back pressure out. But it sounds so good!!!!

Thumbs up

I want this!

I think it looks great and I like the overall concept. Yes - it is a little overpriced, but it's unique and has some brand prestige. I agree that it's not always about hp/$. I think this setup has a certain classiness about it, versus DCIs in general. Just a personal preference - ymmv.

I also would consider replacing the stock tubing with CF, but maybe something darker, but in the same weave pattern - to get a two-tone effect.

Why don't you just admit that you fudged it when you tried to tell us you were beyond 7000 rpm...

Seems this is the only evidence I can find to support what I saw. The article is based on both The Dinan CAI and Dinan S2 software:

Quote:
The Dinan software is sold in various stages, partially tied to other Dinan products. I tested the Stage II software with the Dinan Cold Air Intake (CAI). In addition to increasing horsepower and torque, the software has two additional benefits. First, it removes the 155mph speed limiter, which is only in place to honor a German car manufacturers “gentleman’s agreement” between Audi, VW, Mercedes and BMW (originally made to forestall autobahn limits mooted by the Green Party). Second, the rather low redline limiter is lifted from 7000 to 7400 rpm......Source
I didnt fudge anything, I know what I saw, interesting to find an article on this from years ago and no one knew this. Oh yea I almost forgot most people go the shortcut way.

Raising the rev limiter is useless with the stock turbos as they lose so much power that the current redline, muchless 7400 rpm.

Like I said many times I am not all about HP, and HP is not everything, and there are many people out there that feel the same way. I didnt post for you, I posted for those whos vehicles are powerd by Dinan and who may intend of going the path of Dinan. No where did I see Piggybacks only.

There is a bigger picture at the end, many take shortcuts others preffer to take the safest way.
I am an advocate of "to each their own", but if you are going to make comments such as the bolded, please back it up with hard data proving it.

Like IAT, AFR, etc... values that correlate directly to safer performance.

IIRC, the cobb ots stg1 map raises the rev limiter to 7200. I'm with you though, it makes zero sense to raise the rev limiter on this car, as even 7000 is too high. I think this car should have a 6500 redline to be honest

What does the statement...

....Have anything to do with proving it with hard data ? What is there in that statement that I have to prove ?

I am interesting in hearing how you interpreted that statement in order to conclude with the request you asking for.....

Brand prestige?!? Douchebags like you make me sick. And just so we don't have to go back and forth, I bought the BMW because of the options and performance. Slap a Kia badge on it and I'd still be just as happy with it.

Most people go the shortcut way? What does that even mean in this application? If you consider the short cut way being someone buying dp's, an intercooler, a tune, dci and meth for a little more than your intake and tune a shortcut, then you're as worthless as that shiny intake on your near stock tune. What is your end goal anyway, subpar performance at an extreme price gouging? If anything, you're taking a dead end route.

At least you were wise enough to inquire. The shortcut way is the piggyback route.

I do not consider Dinan, GIAC, ESS ,and Cobb to be shortcuts, but authentic ways for tunning, rather than manipulating the ECU "IMO" .
