Rule of thumb....don't signal until you are already making your way into the next lane. People on the road are just assholes and if they see you signal to cut in, 9 out of 10 times they will speed up and block you from merging in.

yeap, alan did that to me once. I was signaling making a right and alan floored his car and blocked me off. This all happened on the busy streets of chinatown.

I got more stares in my '87 CRX but its probably because the thing was rusted out and and people tried to wave at me to make sure I dont come crashing into them when my brakes fail or something like that ... LOL

I feel people are more nice to you when you are in a nice car. Ever Since i got my driver license (age 16) I have only driven New Acuras, Audis and for the first time i'm in a bmw. you'll find rude drivers in very very old beat up cars but besides that, i have never felt like you did.

You are ridiculous to think anybody is jealous of 2008 BMW. Nobody gives a shit what you drive, maybe if you are 17 you might think that.

Talk about being delusional. I bet you pull up at valet and tell the guy to be extra careful and do 10 minute towel wipe and tell him not to get jealous and mess up your car because it's a luxury sedan when a guy in more expensive Lexus just laughs at your face and simply hands over the keys.
Words of wisdom.

At 17 you think everyone cares about you.

At 67 you realize no one ever gave a crap about you all along.

When I see another bmw/mb/lexus/audi driven by a new 17 year old licensed driver, I am thinking of how to avoid this road bomb waiting to happen. Please realize... no one cares what you drive, except other poserish 17 year olds who had mommy and daddy buy them a bimmer.

I am 28, work hard, have my own business, self employed and just paid for my first bimmer in cash. I bought it for myself, not to try to impress anyone on the road. I dont care what anyone thinks of the car, or of me buying the car. I did not buy it to make anyone jelous, nor do I think I make anyone jelous.

The moral of the story, it is not the car, its the driver and the driver's attitude. Unless you just paid for your Lambo/Ferrari/Bentley in cash, you are a nobody. Anyone with a decent credit score can get a car payment. Anyone can get a lease. You want to impress someone? Dress well in a clean pressed suit, pull up to a business meeting in your clean car with no stickers on it, close a business deal, and be happy to know you have enough saved in cash to go buy any car at any dealer in cash. Be happy knowing you control how much money you earn. Be happy knowing you have a family who cares about you, and that you will pass on your learnings to your kids.

People will remember you for who you are and what you accomplished, not what car you drive.

just because it has the cheaper, least powerful engine choice doesn't diminish the fact that it is a luxurious e60

And maybe in your POS e34 people don't hate you, because whenever you drive a nice car, such as a new BMW, some people will be jealous, and at times, take out their jealousy on you, whether its cops, DMV employees, or whoever
jealousy? I have many clients who are LEO, and I can trust you, they dont pull over bmw's, because they are jelous. they typically pull people over for being douchebag drivers.

especially in our neck of the woods, where every other car is a bmw/mb/lexus/cadillac/audi... you need to be driving something really nice, such as a Maseratti Gran Sport for me to give anyone a second look.

You are in NJ, not in Alabama... every other car on the road here is a luxury/sport car.

I do apologize, I just picked up my bimmer, I dont have the holy attitude of everyone is jelous of my ride yet.

From my economics class back in college we had this final exam question... Is it better to buy a 50k car cash, or invest the money? There were some figures with real live percentage rates and different investments but long story short... You loose money if you buy the car cash if you had the option of investing.

+1 he speaks the truth. paying for the car in full in cash isnt a wise choice.
