1. Is mp3 the only format? 2. Can you group in folders (e.g. folder called "album name" which contains mp3 files for that album)? 3. Does the USB interface only work with memory sticks or could you use an external (separately powered) HDD?

Er, good questions
1. Is mp3 the only format? No you can copy straight from a disc, it also supposts WMA files 2. Can you group in folders (e.g. folder called "album name" which contains mp3 files for that album)? Yes, BUT when you install new music, it gives it a new folder and won't add to existing, you can rename it though 3. Does the USB interface only work with memory sticks or could you use an external (separately powered) HDD? You can use other divices, such as walkmans and ipods, although I don't think you can copy from ipods. |

they may well do. Last time i heard the name or saw one was twenty years ago. It would not surprise me if sony reused the name. It was as common place as itunes is now.

So I can copy music to the internal HDD or I can plug in an iPod (presumably with an iPod USB cable) and control the iPod through the car controls? If I do so then album artwork and music videos appear in the Nav screen in the same way as they do on the iPod screen?

You need to get the 6NR option, this gives you usb and will give you the connectivity so you can use your phone for online radio, browse album artwork etc. etc.
£80 more but a huge jump in quality, and will start to use BMW apps in the future adding all sorts of applications to iDrive. I also agree on sound system upgrade, makes a huge difference. Edit: 6NR and 6NF are two different options. Last edited by gIzzE; 03-28-2011 at 04:35 AM.. |

The 6NF option is £70 and can still be added - I don't know what it actually does however, and the on-line configurator doesn't help. Worth adding though?

Useful if you just wanted to play music straight off the USB, without having to load it first. Last edited by creepy coupe; 03-28-2011 at 04:35 AM.. |

It is more than that, it allows you to browse your phones coverart, watch films from the phone and soon to allow you to access your apps on the screen too.
Not sure if this is any apps, BMW only apps or BMW approved apps or what, but could be cool in the future, speed camera detector on screen anyone? This will be more important than the USB option has for the last couple of years. |

Awesome car/spec xenon, congrats. I do have a soft spot for the F10 and would love to run a 520d M Sport alongside my Pork. But alas, funds don't permit (they would if I sold the wife's Mini and the daughters Fiesta though ). My spec would be Alpine White/Black leather, media/visibility/19"s. I would also probably go for the auto.
Any reason you didn't go for the 19" alloys? They look fantastic, but perhaps compromise the ride too much. |

I've got 19" alloys on my e92 and I swore I'd never have such low-profile tyres again. 30-series tyres, RFTs and M-Sport suspension are not happy bedfellows. The 19" wheels do look good though.
