I realize the car has a warranty. Shame on me for not wanting to have to use it. |

In park or neutral the exhaust doesnt sound much different then stock when you rev it hard except for this suction sound everytime the rpms drop, but in gear and out on the road its beautiful in my opinion, i love it. So well balanced, so exotic and quality sounding. Makes your car sound like it naturally sounds that good becuase it isnt too loud or obnoxious and it minds its manners when it needs to like on the freeways. It has a deep and throaty sound, as if it were a stock porsche or something of that nature, never ever makes you sound like you just have an exhaust and thats the only reason you sound like that, makes you sound like "damn those new 335i's sound sooo good" and not "oh he has an exhaust..." Im trying to get a hold of someone who has a really good camera to film some idle revs, some 1st to 2nd gear hard accelerations, some in cabin clips, some drive by's, and some take offs. Give me another week and i'll have it up.

find me a car that overheated and blew because of a lack of oil cooler, not just a bunch of people crying because their temps get up to 260

No, you shouldn't get it just because other 335's have it. But you should get it if BMW says ALL 335i's have it.

The AudiWorld ATs? And some dude on Bimmerfest I believe, I think they gave him a new car eventually if I'm not mistaken. The AW guys just had overheating issues on the track for hot lapping it, and I do believe they were AT, but someone correct me if I'm wrong.

90% of the discussion on this thread is moot and defies logic. All 335i cars with the Sport Package are supposed to have the oil cooler. This is the current statement from BMWNA as of today. If the car is missing the oil cooler BMW made a mistake.

Very short gears aren't usually necessary for turbo'd cars. With too low of gearing, you run the risk of not completely spooling up the turbo by the time you hit max rpm. Taller gears help load the turbo. On the otherhand, I don't think the 3.46 gear + MT would be overkill at all.

im sure if the AT buyers would of known they weren't going to get the cooler they would of though about it twice before buying the car. the only different part from AT to MT should be the tranny. For those who do have it I'm sure they would complain like hell if they didnt have it. an overheating engine is a big issue whether is happening right now or is "goin" to happen. just my .02 cents.....

Damn you people!
Now I'm looking for my air to oil cooler. I have a 6AT sedan, 2007, I think 11/06 build date. So looking through the bottom grill in the center, is that the radiator or an oil cooler??? If I look through the passenger side grill, it looks like a vent towards the wheel well for brake cooling... Help? |

[QUOTE=edgarj;774690]So how do you feel about the USB integration and iDrive presets included in the March production?
The correct analogy: So how would you feel if you had a March production car that did not have the USB integration and iDrive presets? |

First of all, for those that don't know, I'm the one who has persuaded BMW to retrofit my car with the a-t-o cooler on their dime. I documented my steps in a thread below. The key is to stay professional, courteous, and approach them in a partnership win-win manner rather than with an adversarial me-versus-them tone. Really, we all want the same thing...to love the car and have it be able to perform to expectations.
OK here's the deal on all the analogies: BMW marketing assures us that if we buy their car and equip it with the Sport Package, we can expect a high level of performance including the ability to track the car or run it all day long on the autobahn without overheating. This marketing-to-usage connection has been proven repeatedly in court and can be re-proven if necessary. Now, we have a situation where unmodified cars (i.e no Proceed, etc..) equipped with every performance option may not be able to deliver on that marketing promise. This has been documented and repeated by the technical editors of Roundel, even if the truth is still not entirely known. In addition, the same issue could cause many warranty headaches for BMW come summer track season. So, legally I can argue that yes we do have a right to have trackable cars that do not overheat, even when subjected to Death Valley conditions as per their marketing. From a customer service perspective, it just makes sense to offer the retrofit for those who ask. And from a $ perspective, if the customer says I'm taking this car to the track on a hot day, BMW does nothing, and then the engine blows...well obviously that is a warranty $$ liability there as well. Finally, when you receive an email that says all Sport package 335i's are equipped with the a-t-o cooler, and you do not have one, well that's the icing on the cake. |

But one more time.... Looking through the center grill you will see your radiator and your intercooler on bottom. Look into the passenger side brake air vent from the front and in the upper right you should plainly see a o-t-a cooler. |

USB and iDrive Presets don't have the slightest chance of compromising the mechnical integrity of the machine.
1: BMW has said I should have one (I'm one of the ones with that email). 2: I suspect that the cooler was left out for other-than-technical reasons (read: market-related cost reductions). 3: I would rather fight to get one now BEFORE my engine overheats (it might not, but why do I want to risk it?). Besides, hot oil breaks down faster, leading to increased wear and shorter engine life -- I plan to keep my car for a while. 4: See number 1. |

A clarification please
Is this to mean that all ZSP's have always had it or all ZSP's after 12/06 production will? I have a 11/06 ZSP 335 coupe, but right now it's snowing so I'm not crawling under to find out! Thanks

As for finding it, you don't need to crawl at all. It is very, very easy. There are two ways. Look through the mesh on the passenger side under the bumper. If you see a wall of black plastic you do not have it. If you see a small radiator you do. If bending over is too hard, open your hood. If you have two rubber tubes going from the passenger side bumper area to the oil filter, you have it. If not, you don't. |

What is wrong with some of the people in this thread?
An oil cooler is absolutely, positively an essential component. IMO, probably one of the most crucial parts that BMW could have stupidly deleted in probably thousands of 335i's. Add to the fact BMW is stating that all Sports 335i's should have it, and we have a problem here. |

Unfortunately, the only "official" comments that I have seen are from customer service types. This could easily be refuted by BMW by saying the customer service reps were mistaken. Hopefully, this is resolved soon. I also hope that the people that want the cooler get one Although, that is a tiny cooler. I wonder how much impact that little thing actually has on cooling the oil. |

When I called BMWNA yesterday I asked to speak to a technical service rep who was adamant that ALL 335i cars with Sport Package are to have them. I am not sure he believed me when I said some cars are arriving to dealers without them. My guess is that BMW will announce a retrofit pronto. Otherwise this puts them in a very precarious position.
