And this is how all the car magazines and consumer tests will see it also. Z1 is dead in the water.

The entry level beeing FWD makes sense, it's easier and cheaper to produce cars with such an solution next to the better, but costlier RWD option. So entry level beeing FWD is fine, anyone driving a Mini knows this imo. The previous Z1 was pretty much an experiment by the look of things, the doors beeing one. So having a Z1 within this family, great! Z3 RWD with softop, within the F10 1 series family, awsome! What about it's size next to the original, smaller perhaps? Z5 to duel against the legendary SL, that would be a treat. BMW needs that one, badly! But what about the Z8, another experiement, or something to be build upon Scott? As for those who doesn't like this, BMW is not a niche brand anymore, they were in the 70's and perhaps 80's. Now they are big players, and the biggest premium brand, and they will build upon that. How is that a bad thing? It will provide us with more options, and i'm all for that! As i think pretty much anyone would be, lighten up! |

I think my saddest day was when I had to sell my Z4M Coupe, and sell it for a huge loss (bought in 2007 before the full economy crash, sold in heart of crash), had a baby coming and my wife couldn't learn stick (I tried teaching her, and almost killed her), anyway, having an original Z3 M roadster then a Z4 3.0 and Z4M Coupe, I someday hope to own one again as they are pure joy to drive! probably 5+ years away from even thinking about one, but hey its probably going to be that long before the Z3M comes out anyway

We should know by the end of the month on whether BMW will move forward with the new naming strategy for the Roadster family.
Auto Motor Und Sport have a feature on the Z2 , and is showing the design concept that is being progressed via the Vision Connected Drive/328 Hommage and being applied to BMW's design language . More modern , very progressive and becoming very futuristic. The new progression of design language @ BMW is leading to a very exciting outlook for future BMW models. But just to re-iterate . The Fwd UKL Roadster is expected to be called Z1 , The Modular F20 Matrix Roadster using RWD and a Soft-Top and an additional Coupe originally designated Z2 will become the Z3. And the Z4 which will follow the usual dimensional progression will become the Z5. Not a complete SL rival , it wont be as big as an SL but will still retain a folding Hardtop and a premium image.

No more renaming, please. X drive, S drive, GT, all these even numbered cars----make it stop.

GM. Building too many of the same cars in the same segments. Just shooting themselves in the foot.
