I can second this account. Just make ~800 mile trip from Philly to Vermont and averaged ~24mpg averaging 85-90mph on 87-N.

i have a 325i but still, i can say this NA 6cyl in pre LCI is crap for fuel economy in city, just that. it's less tricky to fix later on compared to newer engines though so it's a tradeoff. but not a nice one. highway consumption is OK, but city is as bad as you say it is, yup.

What should I be looking at if I get ~17mpg 75% city 25% highway? This is after cleaning the MAF and adding a bottle of techron. I had 15mpg before techron.

Car is a e90 330i w/ 46k miles, with a charcoal delete. I usually never go past 3000rpm and fill up with 76 91 octane. There are no error codes in INPA other than the unplugged muffler flap.

I'd say that's normal. In socal you rarely get to cruise at a steady speed for longer than a minute. Always hitting stop signs, lights, traffic. That eats up gas like no other.

I got 14-15mpg 85% city shifting at 3000rpm and driving semi aggressively. Just as an experiment I've been shifting at 2000rpm, driving really gently, and utilzing a lot more neutral costing. Now I'm seeing a little over 18mpg in the same conditions.

in traffic and city the mpg is crap i average about 16 when there is traffic maybe lower sometimes i dropped to around 14.5 but when i drive highway it boots up to around 18 19 depends how aggressive i drive have. half of classes i go and leave around rush hour the other half i get nice empty roads. so it all depends on your driving conditions.
