Can't you just get the roms yourself and flash it onto the phone?

Wow, I am in so much love with Samsung Galaxy Nexus, it’s got some awesome features. I have and iPhone 4, but I am really disappointed with iPhone 4s. I guess it would be better to buy Galaxy now.

If you're into photography you'd know that more megapixels isn't necessarily better, but in this case with phone sensors, usually the higher megapixel sensor is actually better. It looks like google is hell-bent on using the same 5mp chip that was in the original Nexus One. The "pink center" bug that plagued the Nexus One and Nexus S still seems to be apparent in the Galaxy Nexus based on the sample photos on GSMArena. That's really freakin sad lol. Have to commend Apple on the camera front - the sensor is actually quite good being back-illuminated as well. Not sure the extra IR filter does much but they've really put effort into the processing (not oversharpening and over contrasting like they used to do).

Anyway, I'm still an android fanboy so I suppose I'll still get one to add to my Nexus collection... whether I'd use it over my SGS2 is uncertain, especially if the SGS2 gets an ICS update anytime soon.

lol based on Samsung's track record with updates, we both know that's not gonna happen. That's why I'm glad this is a Nexus phone.

Amen.

However, I'd imagine you'll see plenty of ROMs cooked up in no time. Those who wish for official support will be waiting for a long time.

I believe my Captivate got FroYo after GB was out already. Fuck Samsung.

That's good enough for me.

I don't watch stuff on my phone from < 1" away.

We've become so hardware obssessed that we've forgotten there was a lot of optimization that needed to be done on the software side. That's what the Prime is about. People bitched about the specs of the Nexus S but it still did incredibly well with optimization.

It's not for everybody. Hardware whores will be much better suited with the SGSIII or whatever else is on the horizon.

Apple realized there was a lot to gain from optimization.

Google did too.

Regarding the PenTile display concerns:

Check out this article. It's not as bad as people are making it out to be.

In fact, as far as effective sppi goes (after docking subpixels for the PenTile display), the GN still comes out ahead of the SGSII.

PPI is prob fine, I saw the Droid Bionics display though if it looks anything like that it will be annoying to use. I'm impressed though, as a Nexus S and SGSII owner im jealous.

It's out in the 16GB GSM flavor, but you have to get it from abroad. Best price I've seen so far is around $700 but that might have been with a discount code at checkout.

I think preorders for VZW subsidized versions start tomorrow, with a release date of 12/8.

Yeah something fishy is going on.

I wonder if it's politically motivated or technically motivated.

So many delays that I'm considering holding out for the next latest and greatest phone. Quad core is just that much closer each day nexus is further delayed. The best reason for buying a nexus is for ICS and that exclusive ICS time is diminishing day by day.

Quote:
Unfortunately, not all is perfect in Android’s latest tasty treat. Reports quickly surfaced about how Verizon’s 4G LTE variant would feature both VZW branding and a short order of mild bloatware. Bloatware on a Nexus device? BLASPHEMY!

At least unlocked GSM owners were safe… Right? Wrong.

As quickly discovered by community members who failed to receive the 4.0.1 update, and subsequently weren’t able to perform a manually install, there are several software configurations of the GSM Galaxy Nexus. The true, Google-controlled version is yakju—the rest being Samsung-controlled variants, thereof. All carry the hardware code name maguro, so it is plausible that they can be flashed to yakju. However, according to Android software engineer Jean-Baptise Queru, it is unclear at this time whether this is actually possible.

yakjusc and yakjuxw are indeed the two Samsung-prepared builds I’m aware of at the moment, but I’m discovering them as they get released. I only have some visibility over the builds that are prepared by Google, i.e. yakju. Everything else comes from Samsung and I don’t know what their schedules and release plans are. I can’t guarantee that flashing the yakju files that I posted would work on a device that originally shipped with yakjuxw, as I don’t have access to such devices. The hardware is supposed to be close, but I don’t know for sure that it’s close enough. JBQ

Where Does This Leave Us?
All builds other than yakju are not controlled by Google themselves, leading to the very real possibilities of update delays and carrier- and/or OEM-installed bloatware. This doesn’t taste like “Nexus” anymore, does it? Since Nexus represents Google’s regain of platform control, anything other than unfettered Google is no longer Nexus.
