There used to be an old rule that, if you saw a plain white Ford (typically Granada or Capri), with two male occupants wearing white shirts, then...

More recently, it applied to Vauxhall Omegas/Senators with Xenons (before Xenons became more popular)... However, now that anything goes (marques-wise) it's a bit of a lucky dip - look out for the Skodas in Sheffield!

The one time an unmarked car pulled me over (Omega), the sunroof assembly had been replaced with the flashing lights that were flipped out when needed (saw it first hand when I was in the back seat of the unmarked car, being told about the error of my ways!).

Mate, there are some good words of wisdom in this thread - take heed!

Probably was his wife.

I've was once stopped by an off duty CID man on his way home from work.

He did a handbrake turn in front of my car then jumped out wearing stab vest and brandishing a police radio.

These guys are never entirely off duty.

I still reckon there is a chance that he caught up with you to do a check then buzzed off once he realised that your car was legit.

Either that of he was a complete nutter

but like i said when he came up i nailed it and we both hit 3 figure speeds then both braked hard. i rekon imust if wound him up acceleratign as he was coming up quick.

when i was 18 i had a fiesta xr2i and i gave chase to a white audi which i saw thundering down some country lanes, i was quite close and they kept brake testign me then because they couldnt shake me off one in the passenger seat undid his belt and flashed a badge at me, i quickly browned my pants and applied the brake rather heavily to stop and turn around

never heard anything, but that was deffo 3 coppers in a 3.0 white unmarked audi all with white shirts on, what a do do eh..

I don't know ... it sounds like he really wanted to catch up with you as opposed to just get by.

You'll never know, but we should all learn from the experiences of our youth and be aware that the cops are not always in white cars with shiny stripes.

My friend drove into the back of an red vauxhall astra some years ago, writing off his dads 3.8l Rover in the process.

Driver was a uniformed police officer and he was done for careless driving and banged up for 12 hours until I collected him from the station.

A mate of mine once tapped his brakes a few times to shake off someone who was sitting on his tail (dangerously so). The guy got so annoyed (disproportionately) that he overtook on blind bends to get in front then started smoking his tyres by breaking hard. My mate did a three point turn to go the other way and the guy gave chase again. My mate had to drive pretty scarily to get away from this guy and he only drove off when we pulled into a garage where a police car was parked.

There's some serious nutters out there...

I once had a lorry driver totally block a three lane roundabout with his HGV whilst he tried to force my car door open - to 'talk' to me.

I also had an incident with a taxi driver who (inexplicably) tried to break my passenger side window with a little wooden brush from a dustpan and brush set.

(The last one was actually quite funny).

I have had it the other way as well... I once had a guy basically try and force me off the road where he should have given way and merged into the stream of traffic I was in. I blew the horn, gave him a few flashes of the headlights and then just followed him quietly.

...after the fourth circuit of the local Tesco carpark I figured he'd got the message and left.
