Not everyone; just the ignorant ones.

Why don't you post accurate statements?

There is an easy way to avoid being called ignorant.

Search youtube for "x5 off road" "x5 off road test" "x5 performance center".

You're welcome.

If it doesn't have a true diff lock, you won't be going anywhere a true 4x4 off-road vehicle can go.

It isn't a "true off-road" vehicle, but it certainly isn't "useless". Just like the M3 is not a track car, but it will still tear it up on the track.

In my X5, I can:

-drive through deep water because the intake(s) are high and the doors are waterproof
-climb steep slick rocks with wet all-season tires
-descend a steep rocky face with wet tires; optionally controlling the speed in 1mph increments with a control stalk, also while turning
-drive at a reasonable speed over extreme undulations that will unload entire corners of the chassis and twist it in mid execution
-clear a ton of crap on the road
-drive on ice
-drive in deep snow
-adjust my suspension and steering (adaptive drive)
-Adjust my traction control between fully engaged, semi (traction mode a la MDM), or fully off.

How do I know all these things? Because I've actually done them.

I would hope you can do some of those things, otherwise why buy an awd crossover.

When compared to a true off-road vehicle like the g-wagon, it would be consider a pretender.

You need a real diff lock front and rear to do any true off-road activities.

Why anyone would think of using G63AMG with 500+ whp as an Offroad car? It is not supposed to go deep there. There are completely different purposes for this fast, luxury and classy car.

G AMG is russian mafia car. You can truly go off-road where no one can follow you, and accelerate and drive very fast on straight roads where only sportscars can keep up. Plus to this you have all comfort and security, you can even have it amoured. The X5 also by the way. That is why this car still sells so well. I understand the point of it and like it, it does not mean that I am interested in owning one, as I don't need it.

In other words you agree that the X5 is not "useless" offroad. Thanks, I also agree with myself.

I agree with you as well, it is a pretender.

It goes well in snow, so can a car with snow tires.

AWD crossovers can drive around a cute little man-made bmw track. Congrats on your so-called off-road abilities. Keep driving down those treacherous gravel hills or through those 1 foot ponds. Off-roading for nancy's.

As far as the original post you didn't like, the X5 is a pretender compared to the list of suv's listed in that post.

Suvs have no utility, they are neither big trucks nor luxury passenger cars but pretend to be off-roaders. These are ture off-road cars:
Toyota FJ Cruiser
Nissan Xterra
Jeep Wrangler
Land Rover Defender
Mercedes G Class

Among them the G Class is the most luxurious yet has true off-road capabilities. That is why it is so beloved.

LOL. Grrr...you like internet fight ignoramus? Ok.

Bad drivers damage the X5s every day at the performance center. It's also not hard to get any vehicle stuck or damaged if you don't know what you are doing, don't listen, or don't have it set up properly. That has nothing to do with the capabilities of the car. There are a bunch of other videos on the first page that you skipped because they don't support your ignorance.

Saying the X5 is "useless" off road is exactly the same as saying that the M3 is useless on the track.

The performance center course is about 15-30 mins...not 2 and a half...FYI.

Yes - you are right...a RWD car, or any shitty AWD car will perform just as well as the X5 with snow tires. Are you an auto industry insider, because you are VERY knowledgeable!

Spoken like someone who has never driven the course. The height of ignorance.

Pretender would imply that it is trying to be those cars, or is being marketed as such. Neither of those is true. Again, ignorant person says car is "useless" off-road, which is why I replied.

You haven't done anything to back up your own statements, unless disabling traction control and juvenile name-calling qualify as sound arguments.
The entire course is posted online if you want to see it; do I need to spoon feed you? I have no interest in educating you; just correcting information for the other readers here. I'm sure anyone interested in using the X5 in adverse conditions will do what any intelligent consumer does and research what it can and cannot do.

I'm not name calling - I'm labeling people accurately.

Ultimate Russian Bodyguard Car. Usually driven behind a S63-S65.

These cars remind me of the motherland.

Unfortunately not anymore in the USA. There is no real locking diff option, either. The older V10 TDI Touareg was a whole different story and very capable off-road. The Touareg has now been castrated and is nothing more than a city SUV. It had the massive low end torque for off-roading which is what the G63/65 also has. That's another reason why the new AMG G Wagon is great for serious off-road use.
