It is not the cost I care about. It is simply about mounting thing. I am not sure you can fit 15" near the front of the driver's or passenger's seat. The BMW OEM kit has a 1.5 lb from the looks of it.

I cant comment on what auto X requires, but I will say that the difference between 1.5 and 2.5 LBS is nominal. I am a professional firefighter. After seeing several hundreds of auto fires I can tell you that if you dont get it out immediately, the size of the extinguisher doesn't matter. If the fire gets out of the point of origin (engine bay) and sets the rest of the car on fire, or if you get a running fuel/oil no ABC or HALON extinguisher will save you. Here is an example of what a running fuel fire will do, even to the "pro's"

Buy what you can fit for your setup and be quick to deploy it. And BTW I would go for dry chem over HALON any day of the week. It makes a hell of a mess, but it does the job.

This is 13.3" wide. I would assume the 14.8" H3R would fit too then?

Some list the H3R as 17"? We really need someone to test fit it.

So you went with the small H3R?
Yep. I bought 2 of them. One for passenger seat and one for driver seat.

I just talked to my buddy who is a fire fighter he said you want a 5lb, but he said 2.5 is better then nothing and anything less would be the same as pissing on a fire. He said you want ABC rated too.

I'm about to buy a kit for myself now that you reminded me.

The guy above is right, it doesnt matter what bottle you have if the fire is out of control, but most people should be able to tackle a fire quick if its in their own vehicle, heaven forbid.

Jeff, good info. The 5 lb is nearly impossible to fit into your car. 2.5 lb H3r is about 15" and likely will fit, but we are not 100% sure. It is Halotron and should be effective on fuel and electronic fires without doing damage. I may go with the H3R 2.5 lb and be the test subject.

I think I can fit the 2.5 lb in there. I am really tempted to try.

The VAC kit that goes in the same area shows a 2.5lb in it.

Mount:

Extinguisher they offer to go with the bracket:

When I search for Purple K 2.5Lb at amazon I see this which shows Size: 2.5 lbs - Dimensions: 14.875" H x 5.5" W x 3" Diameter

Any pictures of it actually mounted? The actual extinguisher appears to use the same type of bracket as the H3R. The pic on the VAC page looks like a smaller fire extinguisher unit..

Not that I know of. Good catch. The one in the mount says Kiddie ABC, but the 2.5lb vac link looks to show a different General Purple K B:C extinguisher.

I measured and it appears at ~15" should fit without issue. I just want to make sure before making the purchase. On a side note, the Safecraft 2.5 lb has a dimension of 3" diameter also, but only 11.5" length. It just cost twice as much if you want any mounting bracket.

I find it kind of funny that you're so hesitant to purchase such a non-expensive item (compared to other purchases you have made).

Just get the darn thing and hope for the best! If it doesn't fit you can always return it

If it does fit write a review about it!
