I am also looking into importing a bmw from he US and have been reading alot

I think my best bet would be to have a friend that lives in seattle buy the car for me.

in MF8097's post at teh top of page 2 he wrote that there is a 3% tax in the US

so my total cost would come out to
Final price of car + 3% US tax which would then be converted to canadian currency
then it would be all the taxes/duties/fees/inpections/registrations +misc expenses of transport and travel and time

also a question about luxury tax, would i get charged that at any point during the process of importing to canada?

Here's a thought for all of you entrepreneurs out there....go set up a US company to buy the BMWs and a Canadian subsidiary to import them and resell them to Canadians. It isn't that tough and you might even make a few bucks.

I couldn't confirm this but it seems the car has to be registered for 6 months in the States for BMWNA will recognise the warranty.

I found a dealer who was willing to sell to me with $1000 off MSRP, and it's in a state where there is no state tax. They do it more frequently than you think! For obvious reasons, you will have to find out which dealer on your own.

I am surprise that no one in the west coast actually setup a business yet.

A simpler way to make some cash would probably be to bring up lightly used X5s. Much more inventory in the US, along with the obvious cost savings, and because they are made in the US there's no 6.1% duty to pay. I would think that you should be able to clear $5k / vehicle.
