I have absolutely nothing against 335s or bimmers in general. In fact, I was contemplating buying a 335 at the end of this year, but got a deal on the GTO I just couldn't justify not jumping on. If you'll take a look at my sig, you'll see that I've owned many cars from many different manufacturers. I'm not a "Chevy guy" or a "Pontiac guy" per say....just a car enthusiast who enjoys each machine for what they are able to offer me.
Welcome to e90post! We need input from drivers of other cars. Thanks for the info! I have had 4 Camaro Z-28/SS in the past, and I'm a fan of the small block V-8.

Thanks! I grew up building and modding LT1 and LS1 f bodies. Definitely an EXCELLENT car for the money. I may sell the goat and buy one of the new Camaros when they come out depending on how much of the concept aspect they do away with. We'll just have to see, when the finished product hits showrooms.

I thought the final design was decided?

I figure they will be selling for over invoice for the first year. Either way I'll be waiting until I can pick up a Z06 for my next lsx.

Design yes, small details that will be carried over from concept to production: no. I guaruntee that car is not going to be sporting 20+" rims. Chevy would never give the Camaro bigger rims than the vette...which is now sitting at 18/19 staggered. (Z06) Also, small things such as use of leather, stitching, the way all the guages will look and where they will actually be placed could be different in the production outfit. I really like the interior design, I just hope GM doesn't ditch it all in favor of some cheap plasic. It's about time they got their act together and started producing a car with a decent interior fit and finish wise.

Hey speedfreak, sorry for the slow reply. Man did this thread blow up while I was at work! I've been lurking over at the GTO forum for some time now. Actually joined in Feb '06 and only have 11 posts. Is that lame or what?
I'd love to join you guys for a friend run or two. I'm in the College Park area but have been known to go outside my neighborhood for some fun. Shoot me a PM - I'm in!

The stock LS2 motor is one hell of a good starting point. Honestly I'd rather have one of them under the hood of my 335 than the N54. More tuneable (is that a word?) and better gas mileage as well as being cheaper to mod and repair. Yes the twin turbo 6 is a great motor, but for the money the LS2 is great. It might weigh less than the N54 too??

Honestly, this is a good looking car! However its not stock, I believe it has a complete Holden front end.

and sounds damned good too! V8 rumble FTW baby!

Thanks Sniz, saw your link to this on Swedespeed, but you posted Doc's car not mine. It's ok, in that picture he has my wheels on. BTW, you all don't want to race his GTO. Doc GTO vs. 600 rwhp Cobra

The 335i is an amazing machine. Truely will be the tuner's choice for BMW's. Hoping to see one of you guys swap turbo's. I considered buying the 335i after my Volvo S60R but I wanted something a bit cheaper to mod and track. Really hoping to see one up at Roebling one of these days.

Here a few shots I took this weekend of my GTO. Have not taken it to the strip but I am expecting around mid 12's. The car dyno'ed 405 rwhp when it was 105 degrees outside and came right off the street. Good conditions should see closer to 430 rwhp.

GTOs are not that fast. They weight like 3700lbs and 400/400 lbs/tq. SC ones can get moving though. Although somehow MT claims 0-60 4.7 they got...hmmm...

Hey sorry man, your 2 cars look VERY similar to me. I'm sure the performance difference is pretty obvious though!

Sniz, clear out your PM box on the "other" forum.

Clem, I'm shooting you a PM now. Hopefully we can set something up this weekend. You don't by chance have a decent video camera do you? All I've got is the video feature on my 8.1mp Sony Camera. I have access to a suction mount though, its fixed though so no panning side to side during footage.

Procede is not God.

Yes, GTOs are very heavy...but only 125 lbs. heavier than a 335. And your point is?

Maybe the term "slow" was a bad choice of words.

The times that I've seen these things put down are not impressive by any means.

You are correct about the weight though. I just looked up the weight on the GTO and it's 3725 lbs and the 335 coupe is 3571 lbs - a difference of 154 lbs.
I thought that the GTO was pushing 4k, but I guess I was wrong.

That's still 154 lbs though. On top of that, I just found a dyno of a new GTO.
Can you see why are times are so much better??
an LS2 pushing 297whp?

Try 350/365 whp

No worries my friend. They are so damn close it is hard to tell.

Hopefully I will have a chance to take the GTO up to Roebling Road Raceway in Georgia in the next couple of months to get some lap times. My modded Volvo S60R was running about 1:32-1:33 unofficially. My buddy's stock E46 M3 was running very similar times as well. Hoping to get the GTO into the 1:26 area.

Those GTO's look nasty. Thats the Diff b/w a 335 and a GTO. I think the bimmer will always be fast sneaky and classy, thats what it does best. A GTO does BADASS best! With a sound that says "eats little old ladies for lunch!"

As someone who has had both, I can say (from first-hand experience) the GTO is a totally different kind of performance car. More raw and emotional; my 04 A4 (with a semi-custom tune) was an absolute blast to drive. With the "torque management" squelched by the tune, this car was a beast. Not the smooth, composed and seemingly relaxed attitude of the 335. I paid just over $23,000 brand-spanking-new for my 2004 GTO in Sept. of 2004... talk about bang for buck. No, it isn't near the complete car the 335i is, but it was also half the price. Lot's of folks around here (not all, but many) like to "paper" race. Go drive a GTO and then talk about how slow they are.
BTW, I also did a Monaro conversion on mine. Front facia, wheels, even emblems (inside and out). I was at the Infiniti/Porsche/Audi dealership (wife wanted to look at a G35 coupe) and after about 30 minutes a crowd formed around my "Holden Monaro CV8."

Well put rt66er. For the money, the GTO is one of the best bargains around for people that either can't afford or don't want to spend the money on the 335.

The attention they gave to the new Vette and CTS gives me some hope.

Good deal. I am in Ocala and visit Jax pretty often. Good luck with the 335i. Definitely a sweet machine. Plan on tracking it?

Rt66r. Did you sell your Monaro front end to Doc GTO?
