Radartest.com is run by a guy named Craig Peterson who works for Bel and Escort so he bashes the V1 every chance he gets. He got busted trying to sabotage the Guysoflidar.com 2007 radar detector test and he will probably have to part with a couple thousand dollars on top of the $1000 radar gun that he hid under camouflauge on top of a mountain to throw off the testing. http://www.radardetector.net/viewtop...biassed+biased http://www.radardetector.net/viewtopic.php?t=23628 http://www.guysoflidar.com/march-2007/sabotage.html |

mine works fine, likely those people are dumb and have it on the wrong setting, the auto setting wull reduce range pretty heavy (yea its useless) if they leave it on highway like they should it should work fine as for previous days lockouts not storing, its a very common coding problem to have things that were meant to save not save from a session sometimes oh and i can def say the range is the same due to a very memorable little shit who has a GREAT hiding spot EVERYTIME i drive to gainsville this asshole hides in the same spot, its around a corner and behind two sets of trees as well as sunk down about 10 or more feet from the highway, so basically hes got three diffrent advantages blocking his radiant signal ive gone by him 3 times w/ my x-50 and once now with my 9500i, with both detectors i got a one bar alert the same distance, have about 1-2 seconds to slam on the brakes before im ontop of him w/ full alert he has to get so many people O_O |

I've said it many times and I'll say it again: I think the Passport 8500 x50 is the best blend of performance and false alarm resistance. I've used the V1, and it's range is great, but it really does false too often. And, the V1 simply provides too much information. My car is not an AWACS aircraft, and I don't need or want arrows, bogey counters or other gizmos to help me decide whether a signal is radar or a false alarm. I don't care if a cop is in front of me, behind me, above me, or diagonally across the street. If he's a threat, I want a warning. If not, I don't want to know about it.
I just want a detector that alerts when there's a threat, and stays quiet when there isn't. In my opinion, the 8500 comes closest to meeting that ideal.

Thanks for the above links...very interesting. One of them answers my question about the existence of Spectre III and IV in Virginia. It sounds like V1 is the best all around detector; although the STI isn't terrible. As much as I'd like the best, the RDD immunity (or lack thereof) of the V1 kinda sucks, given my state. For the doubters, I pulled this from the offical V1 webpage: "We've been unable to acquire a Spectre RDD for testing. Until we can do so, be advised that no super-heterodyne receiver is perfectly undetectable, and that includes V1. " |

Living in VA, the only choice is a K40. As more and more police cruisers use Spectres here, I wrapped up the detectors (not the front antenna!) with our RAM pouches which offers two or three benefits:
1) Spectre can only detect the radar detector from a narrow front or rear angle, which leads the police officer to believe he got a false alarm. 2) It reduces false alarms in the city. 3) I have not tested it yet but it should also enable installing a radar detector in a Distronic+ equipped car. |
