Why does music from Aux cable sound so bad?

One other thing - rip a CD you know at the highest bitrate you can. Make sure you don't let iTunes drop the audio quality (this option is checked by default).
Then do a comparison. Of course a CD sounds better - it has MORE data to represent the music. Best would be a well-produced Vinyl LP, but that really doesn't work in a car! |

For the love of god, don't use the headphone output from portable devices. Line out or GTFO.
Lightning adapter -> apple/3.5mm cable and high quality encoding for your music. |

The AUX and the CD player are EQ'ed differently, much more treble from the CD player. No matter how you turn the BMW controls, they will sound different. I calibrated my MS-8 DSP from my iPhone, since that's what I'll be using as a source 99.9% of the time. The result; the AUX sounds perfect, CD's are way too bright. Annoying, but then again, I seldom play CD's.

For the cable, I don't have a USB port in my 2006 so I've been using this cable: http://www.ramelectronics.net/product.aspx?zpid=2111 They also have ones with a USB port and the length is customizable. It's not a cheap cable but it's definitely good quality. Last edited by ellipsis212; 05-10-2013 at 11:19 AM.. |

+1 ...i bet this is the problem!! I see it all the time and most people dont even realize that it causes bad sound when your trying to play it through your car speakers instead of your headphones! You probably have messed with the EQ settings in the phone...you need to turn the EQ setting off on the iphone while its pluged into the car and let the bimmers radio take care of the sound.

I posted a link for a cable, its the last post on the second page. You can get a usb car charger and charge it at the same time. The good thing about the dock connector, is it always plays at full volume, and does not use the ipod's eq.
