I dont think so.

Its a problem with how the fuse box connects. The connection for the wire to the battery can become "loose."

Its been a relatively common issue on these boards, but apparently its common enough to the general population too that BMW is doing a mass recall.

Thanks alot.. This wouldnt require a lawyer at all... Hopefully a couple phone calls do the trick but like u said its something that the would have to fix anyway so why not pay me back the money for what i spent, especially since it just happened last month on the 18th

hey i found this online.....If I pay for needed repairs before a recall is ordered, am I entitled to reimbursement?

Yes, under certain conditions. Manufacturers are required to provide reimbursement for certain costs incurred by owners to remedy safety defect conditions prior to a recall. Vehicle manufacturers are required to reimburse owners for costs incurred to remedy a defect based on either (1) the date NHTSA opens its Engineering Analysis, or (2) one year prior to the manufacturer’s notification of a defect to NHTSA, whichever is earlier. The closing date of eligibility for reimbursement of repair of a motor vehicle is 10 days after the manufacturer mails the last of the owner notices informing owners of a safety defect recall and cost-free remedy. For replacement of equipment, the closing date is either the same as for motor vehicles or 30 days after the manufacturer’s closing of its efforts to provide public notice of the existence of a defect, whichever is later. Documentation of the costs is required for reimbursement. While the current reimbursement policy is a relatively new requirement, manufacturers have in the past often voluntarily agreed to absorb such costs, provided customers could prove the pre-recall repairs remedied the defect in question.

So I should be safe since the production date of my car is 12-27-2006 but it's a 2007?

Mine failed August 2012 and cost about $700 to repair at an indy. I emailed customer relations, hopefully I can recover my money as well.

Interesting...

Of all the problems discussed at length on these boards, I don't recall anyone ever posting about the issue this recall addresses.

Oh well, it'll be a free car wash if nothing else.

Sounds like you have a case.
People that have had this happen will need to file a claim.

They typically do give reimbursements if you repaired something that was recalled, before the recall happened.

Great news! The posts about this issue scared me. I remember some poor people on the front end of this trying to figure out the cause and identify a solution. It seemed like a real nightmare.

I have to say that BMW has really stepped up on the things that are problematic on the e9Xs... HPFP, turbos, now this item.

This post should be a sticky.

Call BMWNA. As long as the receipt is properly itemized and is the same parts/labor for the recall they will send you a check. It happened once with my other car where I paid my usual shop to fix a fuel leak, which ended up being a recall I found about later. I had to get the recall performed again by Nissan even though it was already done by my shop, but that verifies that the recall was done properly. You send in both receipts and receive a check for the amount you paid.

As long as the independent shop didn't botch the job, just bring the car to BMW when the recall starts and they will perform the recall.

It's says in March of 2013. Dealers probably won't have the parts yet.

You want your 1 dollar back? The time you'd send is worth more than that.

Time is money.

Oh no... I have a 2007 BMW 328xi manufactured 09/2006. Am I affected. There this few times when I reserve and back out and I switch gear to drive quick and it shut the whole car down. But then I start it up again it works.

Any concern I should be worrying about?
