I love the shape of the rear fins. You or Tee need to make me a set.. I'll gladly pay
![]() In my opinion, you should paint the mounting hardware black. Also, the fins are a little too inward for me... but it still looks great!

I thought about painting the mounting hardware black, but opted against it since when I'm all done it will be covered up by the rest of the diffuser and to do it right I'd of had to sand the finish off of the brackets to help the paint stick and the finish helps prevent corrosion. As for the inward / angle, you're right in that it's farther in than the Varis diffuser, but when I lined it up like the Varis kit I didn't like it as much since the edge of the fin didn't line up with the angle on the bumper. To each his own. When you mount yours straighter post up a pic. Tomorrow I'm planning to mount my side splitters so I may not get to yours until next weekend or so. I'll let you know when I finish.

really been trying to think of something that would separate my new e92 from the rest and seeing what you and some others have been doing lately and I'm really stating to feel the diffuser idea, wanting to do a mix of varis and mikes
but with a different exhaust setup looking to do one that goes all the way around the rear bumper but with fins only as big as yours, and placed where your is. As for the side skirts very tempted to try yours or just get the LT ones ![]() ![]()

Side Splitters Installed
So this weekend I finally finished off the side splitters and overall I'd give myself a 7/10 with the finished product.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 1) I used this DIY guide to remove the rocker panels (aka - side skirts). 2) I managed to break 6 of the white, plastic M3 clips (note the 335i uses the rectangular yellow clips). I wasn't too worried since I figured I could just pick up a couple of new ones from the dealership, but they didn't have any in stock so it looks like I'll get to drive around with no rocker panel on the passenger side until Wednesday. ![]() ![]() You can see only 4 of the 10 plastic clips are left on the passenger side rocker panel below, because I had to use some of the good ones from the passenger side to complete the driver side before re-installing. ![]() ![]() ![]() 3) The heat gun was key to help bend the black plastic door trim around the tighter radii of the front and rear end of the splitters. The trim gives it a little more weight and a nice finishing touch. Ordered the trim from here. 15' is enough to do two splitters. ![]() ![]() All said, I'm happy with how it turned out. ![]() If I were to do it all over again, I'd go back to CalSak Plastics with my father-in-laws truck and use the thicker, 1/4" ABS. Because it's twice as thick, the sheets couldn't be rolled like carpet and didn't fit inside my car. Oh well. I have lots of extra. Next up is finishing the rear diffuser and then onto the front splitter. Oh, and make ChrisE92 a pair of rear fins. ![]()

Awesome job OP! I was researching for a DIY side splitter and came across a DIY on a Lotus forum (possibly the same one as your friend?). I believe the member used a material called alumalite or something. I found a local sign shop who could get the material and do the cuts for me but I lost myself when it came down to where I could mount the splitter on the oem side skirts to keep them stable.
Big props for getting the job done! From the looks of it you got the job done right too! |

Thanks... I think??? Sarcasm???

![]() As for cutting, if you can hand somebody a template and have them professionally cut it for you, I'd highly recommend it. The majority of my time was spent carefully cutting & grinding the splitters into the shape I wanted... tedious. The mounting wasn't as simple as I expected either since the splitters would angle up or down depending on the location of the fastener hole; too far outboard and the splitter angled up - too far inboard and it angled down. You can see in my photos that I ended up just going with a fastener located every 6" or so right down the spine of the rocker panel. The final product is really sturdy; it'd be even better if the splitters were thicker. ![]() Thanks for the kind words. ![]()

Sneaky, that is some ballin' DIY. would your rear diffuser parts mount up well with stock or M-Sport rear bumpers?

![]() My diffuser rear fins would go with just about anything. I know for a fact that you can't buy the Varis rear diffuser system and expect it to work on a non-M since the M3's are wider than the non-Ms. Even though mine's kind of unique with the M3 rep rear, which is actually a replica of the E92 M3, it still is too narrow for the Varis system so I knew I had to make my own if I wanted a diffuser. Also, because my rear is an M3 rep it has the exhaust located more towards the center than OEM or any of the other bumpers (i.e. - MTECH, Performance, rep, etc.). Hope this helps.

turned out great! I'm usually a DIY guy myself, and I admire the work that went into this. Thanks in advance for the fins, but I don't want you to go out of your way to make them. If you have time, awesome
