When my car first had the reset issue it was at 212,000 miles and only 13 oil changes. The issue is mileage based, not oil change count based.

If you can money-shift it, it's a manual transmission. "Yeah, but NO ONE puts an automatic trans shift knob on a manual transmission."

Thread necro...
My car finally started nagging with it's red oil overdue icon at startup/shut down. The reason for posting is that it's at 296kkms so this should be expected next cycle. MSV70 early 330i build. Was the only solution to take it in and get it coded out? Can simple coding tools like Protool do this or is it more involved? I assume it was 1hr labour at the dealer. Still think Efthreeoh should get something like this https://www.mbusa.com/mercedes/herit...ghmileageaward |

There might be another way. The ECU keeps track of the number of times you have reset the oil counter. You can also alter the interval of miles used to determine when you need to change the oil.
I don't know if you can add to the number of times or play with this number or not, but it's done with tools 32 https://www.1addicts.com/forums/show....php?t=1312512 |

Arrrrgh (pirate noise), I just hit the wall with my car at ~222,230 miles. The PO and myself always maxed out the interval while doing our own changes based on mileage. Guess that let it go higher than the 186k miles. Just annoyance now seeing the red service due every start, but guess I can live with it (Learning ISTA seems a bridge too far). Uggggh (Napoleon Dynamite noise).

Mine now counts the miles since I purchased the car.
I "attempted" to reset it when I first got it and did fluid flushes. Now the car thinks it's 51,000 miles overdue for an oil change, and I'm reminded how far I've driven it since bringing him home.

Asinine that BMW programmed the E90 like that. I have a N52 in my Z4 Coupe, but I doubt I'll ever reach 186,000 miles to see if it has the same programming.

You motivated me to get up and act Efthreeoh!!! Took out the Foxwell and hoped it had the capability, and it did!
Zero drama: Foxwell is a nice in-between taking into the dealer and doing full ISTA coding. |

Wait, seriously?
My foxwell can disable the oil interval thing? It's super handy for reading codes, but can't even change battery parameters or spit out fault timestamps. I'm going to have a late Saturday night now. It'd be awesome to not have angry red flashing at me every time I start the car. The whole 'how long I've had it' schtick was just rationalizing.

BMW finally got the coding fix for oil change reset ?
Do I need to pay for their oil change to receive the updated software ? Or, will they just charge a diagnostic fee ? I'm still waiting for (another) official recall notice on PCV heater. Thanks guys. |

The Schwaben branded Foxwell does not appear capable of performing this modification.
I tried and failed, can't rule out user-error.

Just reread this entire thread.
"the fix is in the kombi to ignore the oil over due message." So, there still is no software upgrade to reactivate this CBS feature in high mileage E90 ? |

Just did this in Protools. It's now completely deleted from my cluster. I got to 219,xxx and went to reset it. It would only reset to 2600 miles left. I had 1300 left before I tried.
Module (KOMB87) --- cbs_stat_01H was the coding under expert. I clicked "hidden". Now, when I scroll through the menu, there's no CBS for oil. However, I can still check oil level for the people that are wondering. I keep track of my oil changes for all of my cars on my phone. Last edited by Pittz1; 03-11-2023 at 12:53 PM.. |
