i just changed my taillights to blacklines, and the 3 rods are much brighter (for some reason). But based on this thread, it's the middle bulb and there won't be an error code because it's not run through the computer? (i think) |

Has anyone attempted to brighten their tail light rods with either the 1156 PIAA bulbs or leds (like the 24 or new 32leds from JleviSW)?? Any feedback about the effect after installation? Is it too bright that it seems to diminish the brightness of the brake lights? Does the light distribute evenly across the entire length of the rods? Thanks in advance, I love rods.. ![]()

Glad to see this thread has been resurrected. I was very interested in the BrightRodMod when it was first conceived. Any news?

Ok, I think I'm just gonna order some bulbs and try this out.. but before I do, has anyone heard of or used any of the 1156 led bulbs listed here??:
******************************/shopping...%20LED&sc=1156 They're relatively cheap and are comparable in price to the PIAA X-treme white bulbs that's been mentioned here a few times, except of course, they're leds..

is it for sure that the e92s use LEDs while the e90s use bulbs? this could be an easy fix. what color are the e92 leds if they do use them? white? red? would a red LED improve the rod brightness and "pop"?

Just need to make sure that these won't throw a bulb out code or you'll be looking at resistors again.

Those LED Bulbs look sweet I think that you we need white instead of red, the rod is red that gives the color. |

if the LED was red and the rod was red, wouldn't this enhance the red color? maybe it's washe out because there's already a white bulb in there.... can anyone with an e92 check their rear bulbs to confirm color and what type (bulb/led)??

Also, I'd figure the white leds would actually be brighter than red..

SORRY GUYS! I put in the PIAA 1156 bulbs, they are a little brighter but not much, I put in the LED lights that I had and they were about the same brightness as OEM. But the Piaa 1156 hyper whites are a little brighter.

The PIAA bulb is brighter, but I'd say like only a 10% increase MAX over stock.

I also tried it today with some spare LED bulbs that I have. The first one that I tried was the JLeviSW LED and it didn't produce any meaningful light output. Only a patch of the rods lighted up. Then, I tried a high power SMT LED tower that I bought from v-leds.com. It lighted up the rods just as well as the red halogen bulb that I have on the other side. So, my conclusion at this point is that the LEDs provide no added benefits. I might try the red high power SMT tower and see if that helps.
