John, unfortunately your guestimate might turn out true...they are saying that the only way the fires would go out is when they reach the ocean and the wind would stop blowing. If the fires do reach the ocean, that means downtown might be affected and that would be terrible.

At this point, La Jolla is still safe, particularly UTC and La Jolla Village Drive...the La Jolla you might have heard about is actually the La Jolla reservation which is actually inland and it is burning and/or being threatened.

The smoke was really horrible in La Jolla so that is why all my relatives are in OC. They wanted to get out while they can. Laguna is safe for now... I hope the best for you and everyone else out there.

You live by Qualcomm right? I read they were housing 10,000 people.

I got evacuated last night from Del Mar. This is complete crap having to go through all of this one week before SEMA starts.

this organization has a drop point in Burbank for anybody who wants to donate anything they can to families who had to evacuate in the middle of the night & are stuck in a evac. center with literally nothing!

you can google "so cal fire donation centers" as well & a bunch of stuff should come up. we're all pretty fortunate. do what you can to help...

La Jolla, the city itself, is not threatened. It's the La Jolla Indian Reservation that is burning or threaten. The smoke that's hovering ov LJ is basically from the Ramona fire and other fires.

I live near the Q, and yep, they currently have 10K+ evacuees hanging out there now...a couple of places have been declared safe to return, that's Scripps Ranch and west of I-5 right by Via de la Valle road

Fires still burning in Chula Vista and Otay Mesa areas and the LJ Indian Res. areas..

I stand correced, spoke to my Aunt in La Jolla a few minutes ago and yes, shes fine and not being ordered out.

She is housing 10 people in her home that were evacuated from surrounding areas. Her horse is at Del Mar racetrack...but who knows for how long.

Here are some pics right by my house. I'll have to post the shots from my camera once I get my PC at home back up. We weren't evacuated but the fire came right down my street! I'm 3 houses from the wilderness preserve in Foothill Ranch! 10 foot wall of flames!!! Scary!!! All of my worldly possessions were in our cars. Haven't finished unpacking yet but the fire did come right up to our fenses!!!

I did not take these but they are right by my house

A local news reported that Fire officials said that 100% containment of all the fires in SD by November 4th!

That's a week and a half from now...

Looters or would-be looters should be shot! Why waste time with legal proceedings with them, IMO.

I was telling someone today it will at least take a week or two to put out the fires. I remember the 1993 fires well. This stuff takes awhile. Hang tight guys.

Watching on the news last is nothing compared to what it must be like to be there. Wish you guys all the luck, prayers and best wishes while going through this devestating inferno experience...

On a side note I also saw that some of our boyz are down there trying to help out...

Actually I stole their pics. I didn't have my computer set up again until last night as I had it in my car for evacuations. So couldn't show you mine until now!
