BTW, a quicker turn is a result of more static weight over the front axle.....and also how stiff the sidewalls are. The question is will the S5 understeer less? I haven't seen much to indicate Audi's are more neutral than in the past.

I drove both as well and every single thing about your review is accurate...the looks and features r amazing..but it doesnt really seem that fast, its very quiet..and at low speeds, the steering is very very very light! i was in between the 335xi coupe and the Audi S5 and realized that the Audi is not worth 10k more in price. They wouldnt even knock a dollar off of msrp...also maintence is free for 4 yrs with the bmw..thats why I'll be putting in my order this week...

As for what T-Bone says about the S5 still understeering the same as the old Quattro cars, sorry mate but clearly you haven't sampled the S5 to make a comment like that, the car performs way better than before I know I have had numerous other Audis. I would agree that it won't behave the same as the 335xi but that is the beauty of different brands, there is always something there for everyone. |

Oh well, that New Year's resolution didn't last to long. Anyway what good would there be coming on to this forum and always agreeing with each other. May I recommend some Quattro driving lessons as it will stop you from looking a dick in said tree. |

I look forward to driving a S5 actually. I had enough of my old A6 and my GF's B7 A4 Avant. I hope the experience changes for the better......no worries, if it feels better than the weighted hammer that is characterisitic of the current Audis, I will say so.

Railgun,
Track wise the two cars are near enough identical, on the ring they posted exactly the same time, in the hands of FifthGear there was a 0.06s advantage to the 335i and around Hockenheim the S5 was slower wearing Dunlops by 0.8s which are bloody awful tyres. If you like the S5 go for it as it's every bit as good on the track as the 335i and a hack of a bit better off it. It's worth the difference but don't think of it as an M3 rival because it ain't. |

Footie, I was in Miami and saw a nice blue S5 with dealer plates. The sounded good (but not as good as my rental Mustang GTH Cab) but does the S5 engine have a loud ticking / valvetrain noise? We were beside each other at a stoplight and I heard the S5 engine ticking.....is this normal?

Ironic how the car that happened to crash into a tree this year was branded as a ____.
I'm sure you can fill that gap in.

There is no doubt that the S5 feels totally different to any previous A4/6 you have ever driven. You can definitely feel the difference that the shifting of the front axle and changing the steering system has made to the experience. I reckon most BMW drivers who have driven the previous A4 will really appreciate the new setup.
